An ex of mine was 6ft7" and drove a 58 plate Mondeo with no problems.

Ended up getting an AstraVan (I think?) and never complained about that.

Having said that a mate of mine had a Vauxhall Zafira and ended up buying a back support for the seat as he said it was uncomfortable to drive.

As others have said, it's all to do with leg/back proportions

I'm long-legged and so is my 6'5" son. Neither of us have enough driver's leg room in the Ford Fiesta/Focus/Mondeo range. My son's new Vauxhall Astra allows the driver's seat to slide right back until it almost touches the rear seat squab and consequently provides excellent legroom. With the driver's seat right back, there's really no space for a rear seat passenger's legs, but as most of his journeys are undertaken with only one (him) or two people in the car, it's not really an issue. It's a design feature Ford should consider, as both my son and I would have bought a Focus if we could have got our knees under the steering wheel.

Otherwise, Mercedes are renowned for their generous driver's legroom. Suggest you go and sit in an E-Class.

I'm 6ft 3 and I would suggest an MPV. Maybe not a popular choice but I would consider taking a look at a Renault Scenic. £6000 would get you maybe a 4 or 5 year old car and the newer ones I've had are a lot better than the old shape. The 1.5dci cost £130 a year tax in auto form and is the same engine as in the Qashqai.

Actually, the engine in the Qashqai is the same as the one in the Renault. It's a Renault engine, so implying that it's good because it's used by Nissan is a little misleading.
