I'm 6'2 and would you believe a Mini (2006 onwards) actually fits very well?

I'm six four and owned several Metros in the past. Pretty comfortable.

I am 6'6" and bought a Vauxhall Vecta on the quick. Plenty of headroom, but no knee room. Comfy seat and driving position, but my problem is getting in/out.. I am used to Range rovers/Discoverys, and like to step/slide in. I have to hang onto the top of the screen and lower myself/sideways. A real pain (in the back). Any recommendations for something that is not RR/Disco, but still 'high up' with decent knee/headroom ??
I did sit ina Mini Countryman and was suprised at the room/ease of entry/exit.

Similar height and I found both the Vectra and Signum to have tons of leg room. Volvo V70 (2000 - 2007 model) is good with highly comfortable seats too, or possibly an S60 of the same vintage. I found a BMW 1 series OK and a Jaguar X-type. If you want a 4x4 then an X5 or L332 Range rover are comfortable but you wont get a great one for your budget. I've not driven anything where anyone could really sit behind me with any comfort though.

If he is getting back pain the seats are just as important as the leg room. Far too many cars have seats that are not tall enough or are simply too soft or the wrong shape. In my opinion having automatic transmission makes a huge difference as you can really stretch out your left leg and twist a bit in the seat, giving an extra couple of inches of room.

As a taller person it is very frustrating second hand car buying. A dealer may only have 1 or 2 cars you are genuinely interested in and you travel all the way there to go and see it only to find you can't fold your legs in.... very annoying.

I've had tall people sit in a Fiat Punto in the past and immediately remark "Crikey, this is a lot of head room".

So what exactly were you doing with them?
  • Another vote for the MK4 Mondeo (i'm 6ft 4) used to have one and it was really roomy, MK3 also ok.

Whatever car buy without a sunroof. Fortunately they are a lot less common than they used to be. Seems every car in the 80s / 90s had to have a sunroof.
  • Nice, late model 3U Skoda Superb. He'll have room in the front with the seat right back and still be able to sit a twin brother in the back comfortably.

I've had the same experience and I'd agree with the advice about an auto. To a great extent car choice is dictated more by what is comfortable to sit in than any other factor.

I've never found cars with a sunroof a problem though.

I'm 6"2 and my civic is incredibly comfortable. plenty of head room for front passengers. when changing my seat from my wife driving it to me the seat goes all the way back then has to come forward 2 clicks otherwise i cant reach the pedals. The steering wheel comes out a long way and goes up and down too (if you have short arms...)

Not sure how successful you would be in finding an auto though. You may be better (and get more car for your money) in looking for a Mondeo, Octavia, or even an Accord.
