Cars for tall people
My husband is 6'6" and currently drives a 2011 Astra, but is suffering a lot with back pain while driving as the "cockpit" is too small for him really. He drives long distances so is looking for an automatic for his next car, but we want to do some research and make sure we get the right car for him this time, he said it's very difficult to know how comfy the car will be on a decent journey when you only have a 10 minute test drive.
Budget wise his car now is apparently worth only £4500 so next car ideally would not cost more than £6k.
Any recommendations? He has been looking at Civics.

Mk4 Mondeo, mk2 Zafira for sure.
Not sure about a Civic, a case of driving it and seeing how it fits.
I never had any issues with my Legacy, it never had a sunroof though0 -
A man in my village must be 6ft. 7 in. as he stoops to get through standard doorways. Drives a Skoda Octavian ca. 2008.0

As above, he needs to drive them really. I'm 6'2" and drive a Civic, great cars and I fit fine, don't have the seat all the way back so there should be more room for him if his height is in his legs.
Not sure about autos though, they do the ishift but reviews vary wildly, I think they do a full auto but you'll need to check.0 -
Everyone is different, he needs to sit in various cars or get a long test drive.
One person may say its comfy and another may get out in agony after only 5 minutes.
Parents have a Golf and that is terrible for my back.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
i always found vauxhalls gave me a bad back guess its due to the seat to steery wheel position
try a ford as suggested0 -
The thing about tall people is that they come in different proportions. I have longer legs and a proportionally shorter back whereas a mate of mine is the opposite. I'm always struggling with legroom and he struggles with headroom and, although we are both 6'4", we rarely find the same cars comfortable.
As has been said, he needs to try as many cars as possible. Ten minute test drives are no good. When I bought my current car, the dealer let me have a demonstrator for a day.0 -
When we bought a new car a couple of years ago one of the requirements was that my BIL (6' 5") could comfortably sit in both the front passenger seat and rear. The Skoda Octavia salesman was taller than 6 5 and I asked him to physically demonstrate sitting in the front and then the rear without moving the front seat forward. He did it easily with 2" or 3" knee-room clear and plenty of headroom.
Ford Mondeo also ok but somewhat tighter fit.
As others have said, try before you buy.0 -

Citroen Berlingo Multispace?
I've had many car dealers who will loan me a car for a day or a weekend.
I had a Civic, nice car but I dont recall it being especially roomy head height wise.0 -
I'm 6'2 and would you believe a Mini (2006 onwards) actually fits very well?
Also a BMW 3 series has a lot of space for the driver, but the accelerator and brake pedal can be quite cramped for big feet (E36, e46).
General rule - no sunroof = more headroom, unless it's a panoramic one, where it might actually provide more!0
