I'm another 'other'. Yes, I have a dishwasher but unfortunately it has been living in my shed for 3 years since I moved house as there is no room for it in the kitchen :( I hate not being able to use it and often toy with the idea of getting a worktop model, however the awful reviews put me off! I just continue to sulk while I wash up by hand :rotfl:

I had a Bosch worktop one back in the 90's and it was fantastic

Wasn't cheap, although I did pick it up as an ex display so didn't pay full price. Never had any issues with it The only thing was we had to have a hole cut through the worktop for the pipes

I have a husband & three teenagers. We've never had a dishwasher, just a rota. We do a fair bit of cooking from scratch, there are various gadgets that are much loved (the mandolin!) and we have a Scene of Crime Officer's nightmare of kitchen knives, but noone's lost a finger (yet), the lads all appreciate that good tools make good cooking easier & there's no "Which way up?" malarkey nor coffeegrounds baked onto cups.

We do abide by other households customs though - as guests we load as told.

When they fly the nest & we downsize (a *slightly* wild assumption) I may revisit the washing up machine lark, but the bending & stretching may all be a bit much for me by then!
  • I purchased one many years ago and never used it as it took so long to run through its cycle and I ended up washing the plates before putting them in.

I prefer to wash up as I know everything is clean and its my time for contemplation and putting the worlds to rights Mad I know but I also love ironing also for this reason.

We do - we live in rented accommodation though so we didn't put it in ourselves and it certainly didn't sway our decision.

We only really use it if we've had people over and a lot of plates/cutlery/glasses to wash, otherwise because it's just the two of us we wash up by hand. I also find that as we cook from scratch, we tend to have few plates and too many pans to fit in as I guess it's not a huge dishwasher.

Yes,yes,yes....I LOVE my dishwasher, would not be without it. There are four of us- myself, dh, dd and ds. It saves so much time with both of us working. The last thing I want to do in a day is stand at a sink washing plates!!

Yes, and love it (dishwasher over a tumble dryer everytime) its only me and OH but if we didn't I'd be stood at the kitchen sink doing them - frankly I don't have time on top of RL (I do hand wash delicate glasses, and items not suitable for the dishwasher) but my view is, if no one is going to help me do them, a dishwasher can make my life a lot easier.

Oh god I love my dishwasher. DH had one growing up, I was the youngest in my family so dishes were my job (and I hate doing dishes). When we were planning our current kitchen the only two definite things were the range cooker and the dishwasher. We have been living here for two months now and I couldn't be without either.

It gets stacked as and when something is used and when it's full it gets run - whether that's twice a day (on a heavy batch-cooking day) or every other day. It has made batch cooking far easier because I don't have to worry about the amount of washing up I'm generating (or more accurately "will all this washing up fit on the draining board or will I have to dry it up as I go along too?")
We may not have it all together, but together we have it all

I have never had one. I might quite like one, but it isn't one of my major wants.

I haven't had one since 1989 when we moved into a house which didn't have a space for one, although the kitchen was large. We left it in the garage, fully intending to fit it in at some point. Somehow we never got round to it, and I haven't had one to this day. There are only two of us now, and we live in a much smaller house, again without a space for one, and to be honest I've never missed it so it's definitely not a priority, although we are intending to remodel the kitchen at some point. We might revisit the idea when we do, but it's not a definite.

My parents bought a dishwasher in the 1970's, we used to argue about who emptied it. Fast forward four decades and my family (including me) have become champions at ignoring the beeping sound at the end of the cycle, each silently hoping someone else will empty it :rotfl:

Except for the first couple of years after I left home I've always had a dishwasher but never wash my kitchen knives/blades, good glasses or pans in it. It's so convenient, saves time clearing up and I don't rinse dishes before hand they go straight in.
