Well, today I just got rid of about 100 BAR-type removals boxes on Freecycle.

So, sign up, ask away. Mind you, you may have left it a bit late....

We bought a load from Big Yellow. I can't remember how much they were but I think the price was reasonable.

Often see them offered on local 'things for free' and 'things for sale' pages on facebook.

    Not right at all!

We went through the city centre at closing time and beat the recyling lorry to all the boxes, nicely flat packed by the stores.

Then we returned the following night with the ones we didn't want. :A

But we were ultra-tight in those days, and we had a van.

Have a chat with your removal firm... ours had a load of second-hand ones they let us have for free. We also got a load off facebook and from friends who'd recently moved.

We bought 'proper' packing boxes and packing materials including a few portable wardrobes the last time we moved after 'making do' and scrounging random stuff from everywhere before - very worthwhile for ease, convenience, stacking, labelling.

So worthwhile that every Tom, !!!! or Harry we know seems to have asked to 'borrow' them since (they are flatpacked in the garage rafters). Its one of the few things I've said no to in terms of helping people out since the first 'loan' turned out to be a gift apparently - they're my little stash now.

Funny how we spend thousands moving but cheapskate the little things when sometimes the 'value' far exceeds the actual amount spent.

Removal firm would've supplied them all but not far enough in advance for me - they still brought along plenty for odds and sods on the day

I think I spent about £60 5y ago - was moving 4 bed, 2 kids, crammed garage and doing it myself with some health issues plus husband was away.

^^ we paid our removals guys a returnable deposit for our boxes.

IN the event we didn't actually take any back, as we use them in the loft - a pound or 2 each

Got friends who work in Supermarket chain warehouse - I have hundreds of the things - if you have a warehouse near by might be worth asking them if they can keep some back for you.
