Using a Mobile phone to use as Wifi for Laptop
I currently use a Dongle on a month PAYG to access the Internet on my Laptop and have an old brick of a phone on a PAYG as well. Both using different suppliers.
£15 per month on the Dongle, very little downloads, which dosn't annoy me too much as I mainly use the Internet for Emails and Websites.
£5 per month for the Mobile phone giving me unlimited Texts (no need) and 125 Call minutes (sometimes a bit short) and some Internet which I don't use because of the brick of a mobile.
Could I get a new Mobile phone (not really bothered about model) but get a deal where it has Internet Wi Fi on it where I could use the code to get the Laptop to access the Internet.
Saving me ???
Many thanks.

All smartphones (not sure about iPhones) have 'WiFi hotspot' feature.
However, most tariffs for mobiles don't allow using mobiles for this ('tethering') or have a separate, pretty small, data limit for this.0 -

I believe mobile tethering isn't possible (certainly on iPhone) with BT Mobile.
I know Three UK permit it on their PAYM plans but AFAIK they've disabled it on PAYG (likewise EE and o2).It's not your credit score that counts, it's your credit history. Any replies are my own personal opinion and not a representation of my employer.0 -

Saving you what? How much data do you think you receive for £5? I'm thinking little to none. Perhaps you can post exact details.
Also give details of the £15 per month contract. How much data? Has the contract period expired?
Perhaps there may be a better deal available for Internet access.0 -

Err I think you re-quoted the wrong person??It's not your credit score that counts, it's your credit history. Any replies are my own personal opinion and not a representation of my employer.0 -

My apologies nifty digits.
I'm basing it on my own personal experiences; when I put a PAYG EE SIM into my iPhone (sometime last year) I tried to set it up but was met with a message along the lines of: "to enable Personal Hotspot please call EE".
However that was my own experience and may not be indicative of other users. It's not your credit score that counts, it's your credit history. Any replies are my own personal opinion and not a representation of my employer.0 -

EE have always allowed tethering, Orange didn't, was it perhaps an Orange sim you had?
EE, Giffgaff, Tesco and MBB sims from Three all allow tethering on PAYG (some other MVNOs do as well). The new MBB sims from Three even offer 3-2-1 rates (though you can't add the all in one add-ons).====0 -

That's an iPhone thing.0 -

It's not, I've had a number of EE PAYG sims in iPhones (5/5s/5c/6/6s) and have never seen that message.
The hotspot feature works as it should.====0
