Mable, ...just give the meter reader the reading at the doorstep or fill his/her card in then everyone is happy. Its quicker to do that then to mess about logging on to your account trying to remember your password and username etc. The meter reader is nt to know when you send readings in , many register to send readings in then thats the last the suppliers hear from them for years. Leave the reading on the doorstep under a stone or something. They will spot it, you dont have to leave it displayed in a window.

I did send E.on an email explaining I was not prepared to entertain another reader so soon and every six months was soon enough. I also explained if they insisted then we would have to part company. Not heard from them since.

I give them readings on a very regular basis and in their eyes I would have thought they viewed me as a model customer.

    Thank you MABLE,

I actually do think you sound like a super customer :o, we really encourage people to provide their own meter readings, it keeps the account up to date and accurate which can only be a good thing.

I agree with sacsquacco, you don't have to leave the card in the window, they'll see it :)

You know where we are though MABLE.

Its is now July and despite the meter reader coming on the January 25 of this year I was again visited by a meter reader a few days ago. She explained they tried a few days earlier but could not get a reply. I said why did you just not leave a card but was advised that the supplier said the meter must be read by them.

I give them meter readings every few weeks and the usage is in line with estimates for the year. Yet they insist on coming to read the meter even before the 6 month period is up and not only that but have been advised not to leave a card.

I have always been a great supporter of E.on but this just annoys me.

I know they are hoping if they annoy me enough I will ask them to install a smart meter. Well its not going to work.

I had a chat to a man reading my meters a couple of weeks ago. 'You are with Ovo then'? 'No' I replied, I left them 8 months ago. 'No bother - this happens all the time'.

A meter check is more than just writing down the readings. The guy - I have yet to see a gal - also checks that the meter/supply hasn't been tampered with.

    Good morning MABLE,

I'm sorry that you're getting a bit annoyed with us :( I honestly don't think this has anything to do with having a smart meter.

I think the meter reader coming every 6 months or so, won't be an exact date, but I get your point.

The reader won't have any account information for you, so won't know if or when you provide your own reads. Although, they should really be happy with you providing the card.

If it was a 'must read' for example where we really need to see the meter, as the account has been estimated for a long time, a discrepancy or something like that, you'd have known.

It may be worth speaking to the customer service part of the meter reading company that reads your meter maybe.

    Thanks

    Helena,

One other thing I would like to add is I even pay more than your system asks for. The dd calculation is £44 but have asked them to take payment son £62.00 a month and at this moment in time showing a small credit on the account.

You can look after your own Direct Debit, if you log in to your online account as normal and click on 'Direct Debit manager' you can change the payments (if you need to)

It is good to see you've got a bit of credit at the moment MABLE as it's perfect to build it up a bit in the warmer summer months.

    Thank you

Thanks for that Helena. You are perfectly correct you can look after the dd yourself provided it is within certain range. Because I wanted more than your system suggested it requested I phone E.on.

In my opinion without sound a creep E.on is probably the best company I have been with and find your web site brilliant and of course your continued support on this site. That includes Malc as well.

    Thanks.

    Oh I see MABLE

Yes, that's right you can adjust the amount by up to 20% with accurate reads.

That's a very kind thing to say :o we're always here to help as much as we can and we really do try.

The website is always being improved so that's good. :T

    Thank you.

What do people find so undesirable about allowing someone into their house to read a meter?
