E.on meter reads

I have been very happy the E.on and really no problems. I changed to a monthly dd late last year and I give them very regular meter reads.

The last time the meter reader called was on the 25 January 2016 and took an actual reading then.

However today I get an email from E.on advising a meter reader will call shortly to take a meter read.

They often send meter readers around even after you have given a reading. Just general poor admin procedures rather than anything else.

    Morning MABLE

It sounds like the meter may have been read as the reader was in your area.

Don't worry if you're not about when they call next, you could leave the card in the window.

I do understand it can be a bit frustrating though, especially when you can pop your own reads online etc and when it appears they come so close together.

If you do need me to check your account for you though, you know where I am and always very happy to help.

Thanks for info. I have checked online and it says I am billed quarterly.

Is this normal if you pay by monthly dd please.

    No worries MABLE,

Yes, you'll get a quarterly bill and this won't change even if you decide to change the way you pay.

Monthly Direct Debit works by building up a credit balance with the payments each month, then this credit goes towards the quarterly bill, there's quite a good Q&A section on the website (I'm sorry I can't post links :o) and it really helps to explain, just type in Direct Debit.

    Hope it helps a bit.

So does this mean they can come every two or three months to check everything is ok. If that is the case why do I need to waste my time by providing meter reads.

It's more likely you'll see a meter reader every 6 months or so really, it'll also depend on the circumstances.

It's to see the meter and to check the safety of it.

We really do appreciate customer meter reads and it helps you keep your bils up to date and accurate and also means that you can produce your own bills and real time balances.

I'm sorry though, that you've had a couple of reads in a short space of time.

    Thank you

I did send E.on an email explaining I was not prepared to entertain another reader so soon and every six months was soon enough. I also explained if they insisted then we would have to part company. Not heard from them since.

I give them readings on a very regular basis and in their eyes I would have thought they viewed me as a model customer.

Did the meter reader actually come?

In the good old days the Electricity Companies had to have at least one reading a year taken by a meter reader - now it has slipped to 2 or more for some companies - with resultant lots of estimated readings and disputed bills.
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill
