Don't tell me you signed up at the vehicleinformation.uk site ?
  • I contacted the Phone Paid Services Authority and got this reply meaning that people who were misled like me by this service can get a refund if they make a valid claim.

I write in reference to your complaint relating to the service operating on the shortcode 60076, and the outcome of our investigation.
After thoroughly examining the evidence the Phone-paid Services Authority (PSA) identified the service to be operating in breach of our Code of Practice.
    Breaches Identified:
    • Pricing rule 2.2.7
“ In the course of any promotion of a PRS, written or spoken in any medium, the cost must be included before any purchase is made and must be prominent, clearly legible, visible and proximate to the premium rate telephone number, shortcode or other means of access to the service.”
    • Rule 2.2.1
“ Consumers of PRS must be fully and clearly informed of all information likely to influence the decision to purchase, including the cost, before any purchase is made.”
On this occasion the PSA has taken the decision to deal with this matter using our informal procedure and allow the provider to rectify the issues raised.
The PSA is satisfied the provider has now rectified these issues and the service is operating compliantly.
    Refund Claims
The provider has agreed to provide refunds to consumers who make a valid claim. Should you wish to discuss a refund you will need to contact the provider directly. Please note you may be asked to provide a copy of your phone bill highlighting the relevant premium rate charges before a refund is issued.
    Provider Details:
Post: Surestream Digital Limited, St Stephens House, Arthur Road, Windsor, SL4 1RU
    Email: support@vehicleinformation.uk
    Phone number: 0808 178 5349
If you have any further questions or information about your complaint, please contact our helpline on 0300 30 300 20 between 9.30am and 5pm Monday to Friday. Please ensure you have your case reference number to hand before calling.
    Kind regards,

    The Phone-paid Services Authority
  • I've done the same thing and I'm always telling people to be careful! I've asked for my refund, they've said I've hot yo ho and collect it from the Post Office??
  • It's an old thread, but they're still at it.

Hollydays posted 'in fairness to the company' , but really I don't see them being fair to their users at all. A quick look at their trustpilot comments shows how they have misled many visitors to their site.

I have recently helped someone remove themselves from the 'service' after having inadvertently made payments over the last seven months. The email from vehicleinformation is offering a refund on the last three months as a 'goodwill payment' . I don't know whether we ought to accept, or press for the full amount. Has anyone else here managed to get a refund from them?

TBF it does look a bit like the Gov site. Google doesn't return the Gov site when you enter your reg no and 'Road tax'. I used it in error this morning, remembering that I'd used the Gov site free before so I was confident I could proceed without getting charged. I didn't see a tick box, but entered my mobile no and saw that I'd be subsequently charged if I returned a pin code they send me. I wised up and didn't do this, but I can't prove I didn't do something.

It looks very like one and that is not an accident or a coincidence.

It really doesn't look like a .gov page at all, the .gov page is plain and simple black and white, a couple of blue lines and a green button to get started and well marked as being .gov and crown copyright, plus links to other .gov sites relating to vehicle laws and regulations. The vehicle information page doesn't make any mention of it being related to .gov in any way, a yellow banner at the top, big grey boxes with big blue buttons to press, literally gives membership price on the main banner and further down the page. Gives no links to any laws or regulations and even has a disclaimer at the bottom of the page stating they are not linked to the government nor the DVLA.

If those pages look very alike to you I suggest you either get your eyes tested or stay away from the internet because if you can mistake these two sites there is a high chance you will fall for actual scams where official sites are being copied.

Yes, it does. It may be that they rely on peoples laziness to not fully read the terms etc but it does look exactly like gov.uk site. It is plain and simplistic and has a a black bar header that is the very same style on the gov sites. If it didn't look like it then so many people wouldn't be fooled by it. If you read the trust pilot site and reviews you can see many complaining of that exact fact haha. An example "This company redirects you to their site via the gov.uk website so that you still think you're on the gov.uk website. It deliberately mimics and looks like the gov.uk, be very careful and DO NOT enter card details."
another "My wife joined this database by mistake, thinking it was the DVLA reminder service. The site is setup to look like the official Government site and is very misleading and charges for this service. The goverment site offers this service free of charge."

Snide people like you are pathetic. My vision is just fine thanks.

It looks nothing like the gov.uk site.

The reason so many people sign up to it is quite simply because there are lot of people who can't be bothered to give websites even a cursory glance before committing themselves to a service.

Some of those Trustpilot review are quite frankly written by morons.
