This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

Morning all,

Pouring with rain here :D which is a good thing as I am off to work and the rain means it will be quieter, so sorry everyone :o

My two days off went in a flash but I enjoyed them, Evie and I went for a good long walk through the woods yesterday, because she is so tiny and close to the ground she came back filthy :rotfl:I swear she bought half the woods back with her, she had to have a bath last night the water was black :rotfl:

As I said off to work for me, OH in charge of domestics so Ive no idea what he will be cooking, Im sure he will have a clean through as well.

DD is off to hand her dissertation in today with her friend, they are both so glad to see the back of it, and are going for pudding / cake afterwards :rotfl:

Topsy good luck for your DS I hope all goes well xx

Judi glad you are home x

Gers not long now and you will be home too xx

Have good days all xx

  • Morning all and thanks for starting us off RR. It's a bit cloudy here but no rain forecast so the washing will get pegged outside.

I want to pop in town at some point today. DD has given me a short list of stuff needed over at the van when we go over for a few nights tomorrow. Despite the weather they have managed to enjoy themselves over there. Yesterday they went to Mother Shipton's wishing well and cave at Knaresborough. Now it's classed as a tourist attraction with an ever changing theme - currently it's Alice in Wonderland. Can't imagine what that has got to do with Mother Shipton but the girls enjoyed it nonetheless and were quite intrigued by all her prophesies coming true.

I plan on making some BSD recipe soups later. I think I have most of the ingredients but will check before going in town.

Have a nice day all. JUDI glad you are safely back and GERS on the last leg of the journey. Home Sweet Home for the pair of you. Topsy hope all goes well for your DS. (((HUGS))) to all else in need and take care xx

Still at Dubai airport, got a longish transit but am comfortable.

I'll be glad of cooler / colder weather, not built for humidity. At least when it's cold I have plenty of warm clothes, here it's as much as I can do to stay decent.

I've missed so much, Elona's DD's success, TA's OH's last treatment, bells for dog training ( I need to go back and read that again)mans so on. I'll catch up over the weekend.

    Morning everyone,

Wet and overcast here, just back from walking the girls, all three of us got soaked so am currently under the throw, enjoying a cuppa and warming up. Left DOH in bed, having a lie-in.

Yesterday was lovely, good combination of getting things done but still having time to relax. Picked up some YS prawns in W8trose so we had Courgetti Prawns for tea which were delic. The recipe is out of the BSD book and can heartly recommend. Tonight we are having steak for a treat.

It's set to rain all day so will do mostly indoor jobs, need to sort through some paperwork and make a decision on amalgamating my pensions, fun EH!

Glad to hear you are home safe Judi
Good luck to your DS Topsy
Hope MrC is continuing to improve Candlelight

Have a good day all, take care folks x

    Morning all

Hubby has woke up in a grump. Good start to the day.

Need to bellow down the phone to Sainsburys Energy today (British Gas). Despite being nearly £200 in credit they want to increase my Direct Debit by over £50 a month. They can sod off!

Going to the florist today to sort Mom's flowers.

Piles of laundry to do today. I'll never get through it by Monday!

    Onwards and forwards

    Have a great day all

    Morning :hello:

My nan is fab! She's 91 and forgot my birthday a few weeks ago, a card arrived yesterday with £10 inside it. She wrote this – Dear tru, so sorry I missed your birthday. I am getting old now and a bit forgetful. I am sending you the extra birthday money to make it up to you. I know you will be pleased as you can buy some wool to do your beautiful work. Love and best wishes always, from Nan xx
I called her to says thanks and we had a good long chat. Brilliant woman.

The towel rail is on the wall, I have a nice warm bathroom. I think all the dusty work in the house has stopped, so I'm going to polish the kitchen table instead of just wiping it. I may even go nuts and use beeswax :D

It should be peaceful from now on, there are a few things I want to change but they're just small jobs that won't cause disruption. There is one big job left to do - the lounge walls and ceiling need skimming but that'll have to wait, I can't face it yet (been saying that for years!).

The sun is shining and the house will be quiet today – perfect :D I need to hoover the stairs and polish that table but everything else was cleaned and tidied yesterday. I'll just be pottering about, playing with the dog and catching up with NCIS.

    Morning everyone,

    Happy Saturday.

We don't have any plans for today, other than a food shop and tidy the house. We may take the children somewhere to get them out of the house - somewhere free like a city farm or the park.
  • Morning ((((((((((((hugs)))))))))) if you need one. Glad you got home ok Judi. Gers you will soon be home to cooler weather, it's chucking it down this morning.

I am a very lucky lady, OH has bought me an embroidery only machine. I had to sell my beloved 12000 to raise the cash to move from the flat we had that was up for demolition 12 weeks after we moved in. I did miss having the embroidery side. Janome brought out a new, advanced model of their 350e just before Christmas. I saw it at the Malvern quilt show in October. Having just moved again, I did not feel I could spare the cash. However my machine man told me, when he rang to say my sewing machine was ready that there was a special offer on. OH said I should get it. It arrived yesterday. The box was huge, I spent a lot of time trying to get the video to play, eventually realised that it as a film video, so had to down load software to play it. I sent most of my embroidery stuff to a friend, so l have had to buy some more. I did save the thread though, so will not have to get that.

I need to put away the fabric I used for the quilt blocks, so I think I will be working on that this morning, there are a few more things I need to sort in there as well, will keep me out of mischief this morning at least.

Need to sort the rolled shoulder of lamb for tomorrow's supper, defrost it, stud it with garlic and bag it up in a red wine marinade.

    Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy Birthday to those that with a birthday x

Now light here, wet underfoot and raining, dark dreich and dismal, rain is forecast for most of the day.

Dinner last night chicken and ham kievs, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg for DH and DS2, I had jacket potato with tuna mayo and salad. Tonight dinner is surf and turf, so I have defrosted some steaks and salmon, I'll serve it with chips/jacket potato, onion rings, peas and HM coleslaw.

DH and I enjoying first cuppas of the day, DS2 still in his pit, DS1 away for 1 night, he'll re-emerge at some point today - he did say they didn't think they'd be late back, he went away last night after work with a small group of friends to a city for a night out and stayed over in a hotel. One couple have a young baby and it's been there first night out/away from the baby - so they don't want to be late back, I remember those days, not that we went out that much when the boys were really young.

Yesterday I wasn't as productive as I wanted, but got shopping done, would have preferred to spend less as always. Had nail appointment and then got the 2 new tyres fitted on my car. Didn't get chance to do any cooking/baking - so nothing in the tins. I have a full menu plan for the week and all food is either in the fridge/freezer/store cupboard, I'm not intending on buying "anything" extra this week, that's my week point, I do a full shop spend loads then generally need a "top up" shop for a "few bits" that invariably end up being another £20-£30 - I need to plan better but am slowly finding the bottom of the freezers. I also bought some onions yesterday as they were on special, came home peeled and chopped them in freezer bags, enough for a recipe, so have a supply in the freezer. I need also to keep trying different recipes as we get into a food rut. A new bakery has opened in our village, will be stopping off on my way back home from town this morning and seeing what they've got, will buy us all a small treat.

We'll be visiting the various family at some point today, and our friends are camping not too far away so will go and say "hi" to them.

    Keep safe and well x

Good Morning all slightly damp here at the moment but I am hoping it will dry up as I have some washing whirling around my machine I am just going to pop to the shops for a couple of bits ,not a lot as I am away on my spring break next friday so its only a small top-up shop really I have dug some chicken from the freezer for tonight's dinner but need a few veg.
Hope you all have a good weekend what ever you are doing
  • Good Morning everyone, it was a damp start here today but it's cleared to sunshine and intermittent cloud cover, much better! The house is clean, the washing is in the machine and He Who Knows is out with Cookie so I'm waiting for him to get back to have a visit to one of the garden centres for some pots of bulbs and polyanthus to go in my new Swedish style containers outside the front door. I made a birch twig wreath last night too, just picked up the flexible longer twigs that shed from my neighbours boundary trees and bound them together with some old goldwork thread I've had for years since doing a course, looks just like those we saw everywhere out there, operation scandify has begun!!!

Hope you all have a nice day, Lyn xxx,
