I very rarely get the brand match vouchers at Sainsbury's anyway. Most of the stuff I buy is own-brand, because their own-brand is pretty good. I tend to buy brand name stuff only if it's on special offer.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

I take it you have never shopped in Aldi then. ;)

Why do you not " trust" Asda for own brand? Their Chosen by you range is tried out on focus groups Nationwide!
    Mind you it's not cheap!

I've never shopped in Aldi as there isn't one near me, however I have shopped at Lidl.

I think it's down to location, I buy lots of fruit and veg and unfortunately the location of the lidl nearest me fruit and veg isn't really what the locals buy. So the selection is poor and very short dated, I really struggled to get anything that wasn't mushy and horrible.

I'd definitely give Aldi a go if one opened up nearby, one of my colleagues has one on his doorstep and raves about it.

I do like Sainsburys, I have a delivery pass for them, very useful.

I switch between Sainsburys and Waitrose for my food shopping.

Focus Groups are chosen to meet certain demographics - if you aren't the same demographic; it's not necessarily a sign you'll agree. If the demographic for the focus group was the same as seen in Asda - their choice isn't mine....
I need to think of something new here...

    Sainsbury's pricing really irritates me.
They tend to end in a "0" or a "5", (obviously excluding catch-weight items), there's always a nagging suspicion that it's in their favour.
A small tin of branston beans - 33p in Asda, 35p in Sainsbury's. Trifling amounts, most certainly but they all add up.

You're right, but I prefer that as it means I shouldn't end up with very small change, although I often do anyway as the self scan machines seem to love to dispense 2 x 5p rather than 1 x 10p.

Personally I believe we should just do away with all coins below 10p anyway.

And then they go onto tasting sessions where opinions are sought. Not necessarily ASDA shoppers, either.

Don't get me wrong, Aldi's customer service is rubbish as they do it at the till with the queues halfway down the store. As about a year ago, a customer in front of me returned an electrical kitchen device - from my prospective, it looked like they were buying it. Because it was over £20, the customer and cashier - then a manager filled in piles of paperwork at the till. They just need a CSD which doesn't need to be manned all the time.

Also had very bad experience with several produce lines in Aldi. I rather pay more to eat the whole of the bag, punnet etc than to save a few pence - only to bin two thirds. As its cheaper overall per kg consumed. I cannot stand their yoghurts as they have in my opinion, a nasty chemical aftertaste to them. A few others I know have noticed this. Fortunately, I have the Big 4 plus Waitrose and Iceland within 4 miles of me and the yoghurts I eat are always on some offer at one of these places.

Another reason why I don't shop at Aldi as much is I live alone and just want to buy a few bits. In the past, customers with huge shops (50+ items) let me go in front of them, but recently, not the case.

I would love to shop more at Lidl, but the nearest one to me is a very rough area and went once and I felt unsafe

I do use the Mysupermarket app for branded items - especially Slimming World essentials like Frylight, Linda McCartney sausages, Mullerlight yoghurts etc and I get to find out where they are on offer and what offer it is.

I do find it a pain to shop everywhere, but if I stuck to one place, I would have less money.

There are still customers that only buy branded items as witnessed when I've been at the checkout, its more of the elderly.

Only other branded items I buy are shampoo as I have used cheap shampoo in the past - including Aldi's and it makes my scalp itch, spirits, Coke Zero/Pepsi Max - no one can beat it, antiperspirant (cheap stuff doesn't work or makes skin itch) and fabric conditioner as the cheaper stuff the smell goes quickly. Plus Chocolate Weetabix as I have never come across a supermarket own brand for this.
