The only cash flow issue is that he has an offset mortgage and any monies in the account are hived off to be in his current account to offset the mortgage. It is a car/van hire and sales business and he takes a £100.00 deposit for hire and when the vehicle is returned he returns the money but even that he drags his heels on as he is loath to let money leave his account and I regularly have to remind him to do them as I update the system every Tuesday. All the other 3 staff get paid monthly but he pays them some each week and balances it up at end of the month. Business is a bit quieter at the moment but I have plenty to do with year end and VAT. Even VAT not straightforward as he wants it to be a certain figure each quarter so I have to manipulate the figures to suit. And yes we did discuss reducing my hours when I asked for more money which I consider a cheap shot.

The writing really is on the wall:

Owner desperate to save on his mortgage.

    Paying staff by staggered payments.

    VAT manipulation.

    Reducing your hours.

If he is VAT registered as a company, why is he hiving off money to reduce his personal mortgage?

I did feel for the poor people who rely on home delivery with the minimum spends going up so much. I have a relative in the position of relying on it and they are now buying things they don't really need or want to be able to get their shopping delivered. Would be an idea for disabled/people who rely on deliveries being able to register as such with the supermarkets and be given a lower minimum spend? Wouldn't be without a fair amount of problems and probably open to abuse but would really take the 'we care' the supermarkets spout to task.

I see that a little like getting his own house in order before the welfare of his staff or indeed his customers....but then I might just be looking at it from the cynical point of view!
Either way staff need paying for the work they do and if you are still waiting for last months lets hope you dont need to wait for this months too.

Popped in to Homebase this morning after the cheap lamps being posted last night. No cheap lamps instore but there are lots of other reductions in the homeware section. I got a morphy Richards 4 piece gadget set for £2 from £19-99. Couldn't find it on Homebase site but its the same as this one
    http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/3559228.htm
Also Morphy Richards pizza tray for £1 and chip crisper for £2. Lots of glasses for 25p each, toast rack 50p, set of four tea lights in a silver/grey tray for £1, Kilner preserve starter set for £2 from £20 and a large Victoria style gold framed mirror reduced from £59.99 to £5! A very nice sa was going around doing the reductions and she said she had 500 to do! I couldn't find any of the items on their web site but it is definitely worth popping in for a look if you are near a store:)
