Hi,
As said the focus failed its MOT yesterday and I have a man ( trustworthy ) who will do a bit of welding and fit the failed parts in 2 days time.
Its cheaper if I supply the parts rather than he go buy them of the shelf I suspect but I want to check Im getting the right bits to give him.
*Suspension arm rubber bush deteriorated resulting in excessive movement N/S/F
*Antiroll bar linkage has excessive play in a ball joint NS front
Im wondering if anyone would be kind enough to check Im getting the right parts at eurocarparts.com 615590380 and 632590040 ( sorry for advertising )
Many thanks if you can0 -
Both parts available cheaper at Amazon:
Suspension arm LH - £24.99 (one left in stock)
Drop link - £6.00

Thanks, already bought this morning so I wouldny have been able to get them in time, but thanks for confirming I do indeed have the correct bits :-)0

Only you know how good the car is aside from the work they need to do.
If I were in your situation I would be inclined to look on Autotrader and consider buying another car for the £500 you would otherwise spend on your 16year old Focus. Loads of really decent runners going for low money.
Plus you could probably get £100 or so for the focus as a non runner.0 -
In fairness I expected it to pass(ish) this year as it did last year sans 2 tyres and a rear number plate year before
Welder wants £200 for work. Im supplying parts ( £50 ) and the retest is £45. So including original MOT that's £350......
Did look but any focus that nears the 100k mark usually has the fuel pump/thermostat/coils etc go and its all been done on mine + belt.
Looks a little tired in places but it is 16 years old.
Happily did a trip off 360 miles last week ( sun holiday :-) ) without issues.
Hopefully not to much welding required on both inner sills ( I have had a look )
Fingers crossed then!0 -
How many miles on the clock?

so cars been welded and had bits done and Im expecting a pass from the other garage ( keep in mind original has just done MOT last week )
as I pull up the MOT tester has stated that my exhaust doesn't fit the model of car and is too near the body and dash board illumination is not working.
I sit there gobsmacked thinking car has just turned into a money pit. I tell him it has just done 400 miles with no problems with the dash and remind him it got MOT'd 6 days ago. Also exhaust has passed last 2 years.
I tell the MOT'r are you sure the dimmer adjuster is not just down on low. Tester makes song and dance about getting a coat to put over the dash to see if it lights. Oh yeah its the dimmer switch, but Im not allowed to touch controls.
Boss has a quiet word..... :-)
Exhaust not a problem
On the plus side both the welder and MOT boss commented on how tidy it was and how well it ran.0 -
55 weeks worth of shiny new MOT on it.
£350 all done and dusted for everything ( including 2 full MOT checks )
Looks like 'some welding required' isnt the end of your car if you get a sensible independent welder ( and he did quite a bit )
