How did it look in store? What connection were you using to get this picture? Did you have a play around with the settings at all?

Although I'd generally recommend sticking to the big brands when it comes to TVs even a cheap option shouldn't produce the effects your seeing. Of course without actually seeing the problem is hard to know why it's happening.

Yeah I get that but why mention in your post that Argos haven't replied to your question of how to get it back to them, purely to paint them in a bad light. Why should they reply to that, it's not their issue?

    Yawn...

on Argos's site it say's they will collect returns, the fact their Customer Service staff are not aware of this and just kept telling us to return the item to store this is bad Customer Service. The person at the MD's office immediately got we had paid for delivery and that returning it to store due to it's size was not viable option, so had arranged as collection as per the statement on their website.

The fact the Customer Service Team were saying the item could not be returned under the 30 day money back guarantee, but the MD's office were happy to sort out a collection and refund shows there is a major breakdown between Argos's actual policy and what their Customer Service staff are telling customers.

**Update the guarantee is applicable but you may have to ring the MD's office to get them to collect it and refund you***

This isn't strictly true though and probably sets the wrong example to others with the same question.

It's doubtful that the MD has agreed to honour the guarantee - As far as I'm aware Argos have always excluded electronics from their "guarantee". It's more likely that they've made an exception to the "guarantee" or more likely are aware the guarantee is worthless anyway as you still have statutory rights.

Didn't look at it in store, not sure if you could, but read a lot of reviews and decided to get it. After all a TV should be watchable, I understand there are different quality levels so I wasn't expecting it to be as good as the TV''s some friends have that are much more expensive, but I wasn't expecting it to be unwatchable.

Connections ariel, sky HD box and PS4, the picture was blocky/blurry on them all.

Tried every setting variation possible, none lead to any acceptable level of improvement.

Honestly I have never seen a TV with such a bad picture, and when flat screens first came out we bought a TV that wasn't one of the big brands and that was watchable unlike this one.

Just to let you know "branded" tvs are a minefield in themselves these days, ones like Panasonic and Toshiba are all cheap nasty tvs with a different name badge on.

And brands like Sony mix and match parts from other suppliers so you are paying for the name rather than the quality (well you get the quality but no better than a lesser big name brand)

I felt the need to edit my edited post after reading your comment but after thinking about it why should I care about setting the right example, when Argos Customer Service has been appalling. If they did things right in the first place I would not have had to escalate the matter.

If anyone else gets short shrift off Customer Services and thinks what they have been told id wrong then I would encourage them to ring the MD's office. The person who answered the phone did not seem to react as if my phone call was out of the norm, actually they had excellent customer service skills.

To be honest I think a company that has such an 'interesting' guarantee really should clearly list all items excluded, if actually is all electronics as you say, rather than just listing a specific handful of electronics.

Thanks for the advice. Now we have sorted getting a refund on the unwatchable one, I will be going and looking at TV's several shops, ask to see them on different settings, also asking friends and family what they have (make and model number), because no one I know has a TV that has such a bad picture as the one we bought from Argos.

I don't dispute that nor do I dispute you have a genuine grievance.

    HOWEVER "why should I care about setting the right example" because this is a popular forum and anyone coming here reading your post;
**Update the guarantee is applicable but you may have to ring the MD's office to get them to collect it and refund you***
will assume that they're automatically going to be treated the same way - this then sets the wrong example for these people who may well then be disappointed down the line.

As I stated, it's likely the MD's office made an exception in your particular case or is simply realising you have statutory rights as the item is probably faulty - it doesn't mean they'll do the same for everyone. You can 'urge' people to contact the MD all you like, but ultimately your mileage will vary and I very much suspect they deal with these things on a case by case basis - a yes to you maybe a no to someone else.

I strongly suspect that they aren't actually doing anything under the so called 'guarantee' at all, but more so treating the item as faulty and therefore aren't really doing anything more than what they should be; as I mentioned earlier you have statutory rights regardless of their 'guarantee'.
