Their website says home delivery items have a free of charge collection.

    Darksparkle, thanks for that :-)

The staff we have dealt with so far refuse to allow us to return the tv, so I will find out where that's stated on the site so I can inform the manager thats meant to be calling, I am not going to strap a breakable item to the top of my car to return it to store.

I find it scarey the argos staff I have dealt wirh via message so far can only say return it to store to be inspected. They haven't replied to how I should get it to store as it won't fit in my car. They also refuse to answer a simple yes or no to the question 'are televisions excluded from the 30 day money back guarantee?' now that seems like a simple enough question to me.

But how exactly is that their problem, it was your choice entirely to buy a TV that size.

I doubt anyone's decision to buy a telly is based on its ability to hop into his car for little trips around the countryside:rotfl:

My own TV choice depended on it being able to fit (in it's box) in my car.

I called the Home Retail Groups MD's office, one 5 minute phone call, one call back, the TV will be collected and I will get a refund.

If my choice of items for my house was limited to what fit in my car, I'd have a lot of flat pack and small items. Heck even a small ikea sofa won't fit in my car. Then again my car buying choice is based on how I use it day to day not on something I buy once a decade.

    Seiki 55 inch

Will be sticking with the named brands in future, and even though the MD's office was great I will be wary of buying anything from argos ever again, especially big ticket items.

Yeah I get that but why mention in your post that Argos haven't replied to your question of how to get it back to them, purely to paint them in a bad light. Why should they reply to that, it's not their issue?
