I don't understand this as Halifax home insurance policies are unlimited for contents? (& buildings)

They are, which is confusing.

My best guess at the moment is that she has a Paymentshield Policy, underwritten by St Andrews, so whenever a large loss claim requiring an adjustor it does appear to be Halifax.

ah and Halifax is St Andrews -but Halifax are unlimited cover, and Paymentsheild are not?

No, Paymentshield is standard £300,000 buildings and £40,000 contents.

It maybe a St-Andrews underwritten AA policy, from memory they are limited cover.

I see, I know that St Andrews also do Sainsburys but I think thats unlimited

The sainsburies policy, alongside the IF product and British Gas are whats known as 'Ginger' (no, I dont know why!) policies, and are bascially rebranded versions of the main MOR product.

The Paymentshield on the other hand, was one of Halifaxs biggest mistakes. We let somebody else write to thing and then werent harsh enough in saying no to them (the first version had so few exclusions a policy holder could say he deliberatly damaged something and it would be a pay out).

Its gotten alot better but the directors at Paymentshield insisted they knew more than we did and wouldnt let us take it that far. As a result, we refused to underwrite more policies.
