Better half canceled the DD, guess no implication for that, they will just post us the final bill?
Re-instate the Direct Debit immediately. Otherwise, Sky will make multiple attempts to take the DD before sending you letters threatening debt collectors. They won't simply send you a final bill if you've previously been paying via Direct Debit.

Cancel the DD only after the final payment has been taken..

Their systems will handle it and they can place a cancellation on the TV service up to 12 months in advance. Phone and broadband is up to 90 days.

The problem for you would be that you can't change your package during that time and you would not be able to use box office services either.

In the past, people on here ,who tried to give longer notice, have posted that Sky say the system will only accept notice of a few days over the 30/31 , so suggest they all again, nearer the time.

My Sister waited for the bill but they would not accept a cheque or allow her to pay by bank transfer.

They wanted her bank details so that they could take it themselves.

--- Managed to pay it over the counter at the Post Office but had to pay Sky bank charges. -– about £5.00---
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

Thanks spadoosh for your response, the above statement and in particular 'notice of cancellation' got me irate. I would have thought that contract is fixed term (12 months) so if i dont renew it should end, like most contact do!

    Which contracts do that then?
Mobile and landline/broadband contracts don't, TV contracts don't, water/gas/electricity contracts don't. Insurance contracts do, although many will auto-renew unless you opt out.
It's not a fixed price or a fixed term contract-it's a 12m minimum term. Do nothing and it rolls on, then requiring 30 days notice.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

I was also referring to Insurance contracts!

But that's like comparing apples and oranges. They may both be contracts, but they are completely different. All telecommunications contracts that I know of do not automatically end after 12/18/24 months.

Regardless of that fruitless discussion, have you re-instated your Direct Debit to Sky yet?

If not, it's going to cost you more time and money.

That's to save their bonus and retention rate, nothing to do with the system or customer service.

They can apply notice for the TV up to 12 months in advance. It's in their cancellation guidelines. If they tell you they can't, just ask them to check that.
  • I have just cancelled my sky contract. I phoned them months ago and asked when I was out of contract. I was told the answer and then put reminder on phone aathe 31st day before end of contract to call and cancel. Come that day I called and was obviously asked why and told them that austerity measures have to come to you as they came to me. I was asked about new deals and told him not to waste his breath. Again he asked about broadband and phone to which I told him that I would worry about that. free at last. Couldn't care less if I watched tv again to be honest. It's all cheap rubbish about watching someone else doing their job.
