Spring city break vacations

I've never heard that Stockholm was dull0

I'm going solo I should add, male
Madrid seems like a big bustling metropolis
Alicante more a beach resort
I'd like a bit of sun and to explore. Most places will have sun in spring.0 -
Venice. Very photogenic, walkable, good food and drink if you go off the beaten track.
Dublin or Edinburgh ? Can't guarantee the weather but you would have fun and there's a lot of history in both.
Rjekavik (sp ?, anyway the capital of Iceland). Again no promises on weather but it's different and if you go in late spring or early summer you will have very light nights.
South of France e.g. Nice. Better chance of sun, good food and wine and plenty of people to watch.
Could you stretch to a long weekend in New York ?
I'm thinking about Krakow myself, mainly because I want to visit the nazi concentration camps beyond the city. Not a 'fun' trip but a worthwhile one.
Would be good to hear where you eventually decide to go.0 -
I'm going to Milan in two weeks for the weekend. It has history, opera, food & fashion.0
-
Florence – it fulfils all of your requirements. Temperatures are currently in the low 20's, and the city’s artistic history makes it extremely photogenic. For a great photo opportunity, I would recommend the panoramic view from the top of Piazza Michelangelo.
It’s a compact city with all of the major sights within walking distance, so definitely manageable in 2-3 days.

I really like Madrid. I found it cheaper and a lot more laid back than Barcelona and I didn't feel like I was always about to be robbed. It's a very international city so if you are going solo then you are bound to meet lots of people - and the nightlife is legendary. Long way from a beach though!
Alicante has an excellent beach but what I like about it is that all of the package holiday crowds land at the airport then go straight to the resorts further up the coast which means the city itself still retains a very Spanish feel. There's a handy tram service which runs up the coast to Benidorm (yuk!) and beyond. Actually, it's worth going up to Benidorm for a pint just to say you've been then get out of it as soon as you can.0 -

Thank you for suggestions.
EDI/Dublin - maybe an other time as I really want to go on an aeroplane away lol
NYC - been to. Would Be too short a time and expensive and jetlag for such a short trip. Ideally want short haul going solo
Iceland - verrrry pricey from what I hear and plus want a bit of warmth.
Venice - on a future list as I see it as a romantic getaway when I find a lady friend. Line up ladies v:T :rotfl:
Nice - didn't think of it as a city break. May look into it further.
Krakow - will do some research... For an odd reason, Poland hasn't appealed and I don't know why0 -

Florence - again is it a quieter more romantic break? Being solo I don't like eating at restaurants away so go to caf!'s and food on the hoof. Is it good for that?0 -
Florence and Krakow do look loooovely0
