We had a short break in Alicante in December. Nice cafes and bars, the castle was a lovely way to spend an afternoon with great views, a couple of interesting museums, a short train ride to Elche which is a pleasant place to spend an afternoon.

We recently went to Bratislava and Vienna which was amazing... check out our blog: https://www.voyagesofavegan.com
There's plenty of otheres as well, we loved Madrid and it was super cheap to get there and stay. A lot of Central and Eastern Europe is amazing, have you been to Budapest? We combined our Budapest trip with Zagreb and Ljubljana as well as Italy.

Budapest and Vienna is also a good combination - you can fly into one, get the train to the other, then fly back from the other.
Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks

And you're Peter Duncan; I gave you fair warning

I did 3 nights in Berlin recently and had a great time. Loads of history, friendly place and pretty cheap as far as western European capital cities go. I wouldn't go if "sun" was a high priority as the weather can be unpredictable

For more chance of sun head south to Lisbon, Valencia (cheaper than Barcelona and less hassle) or Madrid.

If warmth isn't so important then both Warsaw and Krakow in Poland are fun and very good value too.

Munich - beer, chocolate & steiff

Barcelona - Gaudi, beach, Olympics, great shopping

    Berlin - history, wall, zoo

Pula - sun, amphitheatre, boat to Rovinj or Porec

It might have been helpful if you'd mentioned that in your first post to save people suggesting those places. smiley-rolleyes010.gif

I've been to Stockholm a few times with work but it's a nice enough place but it has never really been on my to-do list for a city break. It's OK when someone else is paying your expenses but it's very expensive for food and drink.

    And it is dull.

OP, have you considered Krakow? Cheap rooms, cheap beer, cheap food and even cheaper women ;)

    Krakow (interesting and very cheap)
    Alicante (interesting and nice sunshine)
    Normal people worry me.

Stockholm is far from dull but if a 2-3 day trip requires access to cheap beer, rooms and women then i would suggest its best to avoid the place.
Live each day like its your last because one day you'll be right
