Quick to to money of you slow to pay what they owe you

HMRC don't actually have to repay you anything until 31 January following the end of the tax year, where the tax calculation shows tax overpaid. That is when the tax return is due. That is also when payments and repayments are due.

HMRC allow the repayments to be issued earlier only as a concession.

This is why no interest is applied to the repayments paid before 31 January following the end of the tax year. (Unless refund is due to overpaid payments on account)

These first 3 weeks after the end of the tax year are the 2nd busiest period of time for self assessment repayments.

The more repayments are requested the more are listed for security checks, thats just the way of the world.

The 'fast enough to take it' argument really is completely stupid, especially considering the fact that should you owe tax you would not be expected to pay what is due until almost 10 months after the tax year ends.

Maybe in the interest of fairness HMRC should withold all tax repayments to 31 January. That way everyone gets paid their refund at the same time as HMRC expects tax to be paid?

    Didn't think so.

Simple answer is, be patient and it will be issued in due time.

Any one can guide me when i filed my return i put net pay is it problem ???so i can amend the returm
  • Yes, you have a long period of time to amend your return and can normally do it on line for 2015:16 and 2016:17 at the moment.

If you have done as you suggest then an amendment is likely to be the best way to speed things up, without doing that the HMRC may want to investigate your tax return.

Amendment period is upto 12 months after the statutory filing date, so for the 2016/17 tax return you have until 31/01/2019.
