17 years old male Car Insurance

Options
Im looking at buying a Rover 25 but the cheapest car insurance i've been quoted is £1600 at Quinn direct.

Which at 17 being a student is crazy!

Any help would be much appreciated :money:

Which engine size are you looking at? If you're a 17-year old male you shouldn't be looking at any Rover 25 bigger than the 1.1, or maybe the 1.4 at a push.
  • Insurance companies see 17 year olds as a serious risk. Nothing personal they just do. Most accidents are caused by young drivers, especially in their first year of driving.

Basically you're first years insurance won't be cheap but avoid the temptation to go on your parents insurance, getting that first years NCB will help you get a discount of around 30% next time round.

To try and get your insurance as cheap as possible this year try taking the Pass Plus, some insurers offer a good discount if you've got that under your belt, also go for a car with a small engine in the lowest insurance groups.

For some easy research try the comaprison websites like confused and moneysupermarket, and see if you can get quidco cashback to offset some of the costs.

    Good luck with it
    the car insurance blog

    mortgage debt = £89,468
credit card debt = £200 (on 0% with egg)
car insurance saving 2007 = £48 switching to esure - up for renewal very soon
  • Thanks mate

The Rovers a 1.4 and im looking to practice in it instead of getting more lessons so i cant take the Pass Plus. Does it really save that much?

Try to go for the the least risky of the Rover 25s - the range of 1.4s run from group 4 to as high as group 7 or 8 according to http://www.abi.org.uk/carinsurance/.

I wont reccomend it because half the insurers said they dont accept it, the ones that did, even with the discount, they didnt become anywhere near as cheap as the ones that didnt accept it.

Plus its like £150 to get it and the discount may only be a little more or even less than that. I know its experience and it can be used every year, but IMO, it's a no no, just another way to make money (for instructers that is).
  • Try Prudential through Quidco-got a very good deal for my 17yr old daughter on a citroen saxo 1.1, £648 up front then £100 back thru Quidco (not received yet, but validated so am hopeful).
Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most..... ;)
  • Went through this a few month back. We found tesco direct the best and it is fully comp although the excess is very high £600. He paid £1300 for a 1.2 clio took his pass plus and got £300 back. Also if you can put another driver who is older on, it bought it down alot.

Try NFU mutual (national farmers union) my dad got my bro's insurance from there, really cheap, as have others now we've spread the news!

They don't have a special rate for young drivers so basically they just get the adult price.

    Just google for them
