Sorry guys, I haven't been on recently.
Dusty: As terrible as this sounds, I have no idea about my blood type (except that I'm a positive blood type) despite all the messing about in Path Lab that I used to do.
I really need to thank everyone for the suggestions, I'd totally forgotten about oatcakes which I can have at the moment thanks to large amounts of medicationand I'm also going to give lactofree a crack.
Thanks all, you're :A"We always find something, hey Didi, to give us the impression we exist?" Samuel Beckett, Waiting for Godot.

Hi everyone,
I'm going to be doing a cold buffet for around 12 people, and was planning on doing a couple of veg quiches, pork pie, green salad, pasta salad, cheese, bread and fresh fruit. However, I have just found out one of the people is intolerant to gluten, and one to dairy.
Have any of you Old Stylers got tips on what I could add/swap so people don't starve.
Thanks0 -
Mini dhosas are nice, but quite fiddly to make. Otherwise, things like stuffed tomato or garlic mushrooms. You could make the pasta salad with gluten free pasta - some isn't bad, so probably OK for salad.0

Hi,
I would avoid gf pasta because unless you know which brand to get, some are vile! It might be worth getting some rye bread or Genuis bread (tesco stock it, but it's quite expensive), or even oat cakes. what about cold meats, and a rice salad?
Sushi is also an option, but it is fiddly to make and can be pricey.
I'd be interested to know what you end up making!0 -
dont know about the dairy free, but could do frittatta rather than regular quiche with pastry for the gluten free and other guests.
in the free from aisle of the supermarkets you can buy gluten and dairy free pitta breads - maybe some filed pitta halves or just some dairy/gluten free crackers to go with the cheese
maybe some mini jacket potatos or rice salad
hope this helps0 -
Potatoes are gluten free .... so is rice .... so those are carbs that are (fairly) easy to do.
As far as protein type foods go, what about quorn? It doesn't have much taste itself, but if you do it with a nice tasy tomato and garlic sauce, something like that, should be lovely.
Veggies are the same as for everyone else, of course.
Hope this helps! I'm not really an OSer, but this question is right up my alley2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Quorn contains milk and isn't gluten free! Please don't use that.Murphy's No More Pies Club #209

Don't do oatcakes for gluten free - oats have gluten in them!
Also be careful with hidden ingredients - for example malt vinegar is made from barley which contains gluten. It depends on the severity - a friend of mine is severly ceoliac, and if I cater for her I have to be really careful.
You can make a gluten-free pastry using special flour - Doves Farm is a good brand. Or you can make crustless quiches.
For dairy free I am assuming eggs are okay? So you can make quiche but use soya milk (not oat milk - thats not gluten free) instead of dairy - no one will be any wiser.
Instead of a pasta salad, maybe a rice salad or a quinoa salad?
For crisps (if you are having any) Walkers are gluten free, or you could have tortilla chips, just be careful with flavours and ingredients such as whey for the daity-free person.
You could maybe make pakora or bhajis? Chickpea flour is gluten free, and is the 'norm' for those items.
Good luck0 -
Have you spoken to them? I would check how intolerant they are and what they would like you to do. I'm dairy and maize intolerant but I'd be horrified if someone went to a huge amount of effort to plan around me and they then caught me eating profiteroles or similar!! I have some tolerance level and sometimes I just chose to be naughty and run the risk of paying the price.
Clearly different to a full blow allergy but with intolerances sometimes people can and/or will have some of what they are intolerant to.
If they are very intolerant then I would seriously consider a separate pack of food for them that is kept elsewhere, so that there is no risk of someone else taking "their" food and/or things getting contaminated or mixed up. When I'm really struggling with my intolerances I don't have anything but in those situations I would be VERY wary of trusting something left out on a buffet table (IYSWIM?)Piglet
