eBay dash cams??

The Ebay ones will probably be Chinese fakes and wont last. I bought two in that price range from Amazon of a well recommended make and one of them packed in less than 3 months and Amazon dont seem to have any way of contacting them by phone to get my money back. These American firms have invented a new way of doing business, its called highway robbery. I think I d stick to Halfords even though they are pricier0

I have a Mobius that I bought last year. It is still in the drawer as it doesn't come with a fitting kit, and is such a pain to fit that I have never bothered.
The Nextbase came with the quick disconnect mount and a long enough cable to go from the cigarette lighter up behind the glovebox, up the screen pillar across the roof lining to the mount.
It is the first time I have been grateful for the shoddy build quality of modern cars, in The Olden Days with a properly built one it would have been difficult, but the trim just clips off to route the wire behind
I think you get what you pay for with the very cheap ones on eBay.:o
There is a glowing (take with a pinch of salt) review of the 212 here

If I were serious, I'd go for one with a polarising anti-glare filter.
The next one up watermarks the video with your speed, (and keeps a gps log of your journey, which is useful I suppose) but I can see that being a problem except in the rare event that you have been stationary for ages and someone piles into you.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

OP
buy anything plus a 16gb micro sd card class 5 or above
they all work and can be invaluable
fit it forget it only occasionaly dismounting it to see it still performs
ive had £35 ebay one in my truck 2 years now still works perfect
i have had a £22 one in a car i use for 18 months still runs perfect
i bought 2 weeks ago a 170% camera angle one off ebay for my other car for £15 and the quality is superb
dont worry about reading number plates because itas more important to show you were in the right with your car positioned at time of any impact correctly
just buy anything0 -
get a high res quality one, if its really poor quality it might not be conclusive and make sure you have one that you can disconnect from the windscreen easily and will record off battery so you can go out and record the driver if they are not in view.
The other party may claim that it is not them and you recreated the accident using another vehicle. quite far fetched but its possible.0 -

That's because the Mobius isn't a dedicated dashcam. I bought the Mobius, a 10' cable with lighter plug, a self adhesive mount & memory card all from Amazon in one order. It took 2 minutes to fit & a little longer to set up. You can buy a Mobius dashcam kit but it's dearer than buying the parts individually, the cable isn't long enough & you don't get the protection you get buying through Amazon.I have a Mobius that I bought last year. That's what I do, use autoguard now as my go to app.
I paid the extra £3 or whatever and down load the footage that I wish to keep into my private tube account.
I'm using the xperia ray and only the high end dash cams come close on the camera quality day or night, plus the battery lasts 6hrs so covers plenty of journey time if I don't want wires strung across the car.0 -
I had a Mio Mivue 358 ex display model from Halfords for £35 and it was really good, clearly see number plates on the dedicated Mio software.
However the socket that the lead plugged into got damaged, probably as you had to plug/unplug it to put in/remove from the car. So I thought I would go for the Nextbase 212 during the 20% off Easter event, mostly due to the click on mount. the picture quality is awful compared to the Mio and it struggles to adjust to sunny/cloudy changes, either ok in the bright then too dark if it gets cloudy or vice versa.
Still better than nothing but disappointing that the technology hasn't really moved forward at the lower end of the market.0
