You just have to try it and decide for yourself.

I don't have an Aldi near me but have 3 Lidls within walking distance of home and office.

I find Lidl's ready meals and seafood cocktail quite sloppy/watery and bland so I don't buy them anymore. Other stuff like their cooked mussels and crisps is very salty.

Their fruit and veg is ok as is their jars of pickled gherkins/onions and their fruit/veg. They don't have variety of sizes though (e.g. their baked beans are just one type and one size which can be annoying for a single person like me).

Perhaps it's the choice of foods you buy that you find unsatisfactory? I rarely buy ready meals so don't have an issue with them. As for variety of sizes - I'm also single but I batch cook and freeze portions for future meals so product size is rarely an issue.

And what other type of baked beans do you require? Baked beans are baked beans lol and if I open a can for breakfast/lunch, I'll save the other the other portion in the fridge to use within the next few days!

I agree be organised and pad out meals with healthy ingredients.

Just me and Mr Stepford :) here. My household budget is £600 pcm but that includes the cleaning stuff and toiletries as well as Mr Stepford's wine gums. Separating it all out is too much of a PITA. Mr Stepford pays for takeaways, picnic food, and meals out.

We cook from scratch and we don't bulk out with carbs. The DH has to eat gluten-free so that cuts out a lot of ready meals and takeaways. It also makes eating out more difficult. We are both really anti-additives and a ot of gluten-free food is full of them.

I do big shops online at ASDA and Ocado (shopping offers) and top up shops from Abel & Cole because delivery is only £1.25 and minimum order is about £10. In winter I buy the chicken carcasses for stews and I get 1kg of organic chicken wings (8-10) for 5.25

Iceland for fish and seafood - they do the best own brand wild prawns IMO and great Argentine wild red shrimp for paella, which are huge. Plus decent Parmesan triangles and a really nice Feta.

MrStepford nips into Poundstretcher for Sunrise organic unsweetened soya milk 1 litre for 59p. I've bought unfamiliar brands of cleaning things there and been unimpressed.

Have an occasional nose in Aldi, Lidl, Tesco, Morrisons, Jempson's, B&M and Home Bargains - really only if I spot something online or am nearby.

Used Approved Foods once - it came in a huge box which I couldn't get through front door. Last week used Poundshop and was impressed.

Can't recommend MySupermarket enough and I've lurked here before :p:money:
