BT phone - call blocking not working

My elderly mother is getting pestered by nuisance phone calls (TPS reg). She bought a new phone ,think its this (http://www.shop.bt.com/promotions-and-press-releases/products/latest-range-from-bt), CLI is activated on her line, I set phone to block withheld numbers, and international calls and I manually add nuisance numbers however this appears to be useless as the calls are still coming.

Is there perhaps a setting I may have overlooked?

You don't say the call provider but i would check first that you have BT Caller Privacy Display live on the account or similar if another provider .

Make sure BT Call Guardian is enabled on the phone. We have the BT8500 set (dual handsets) and in the 18+ months we've had it we've not noticed a single spam call get through. (They still appear in the call list, but the phone doesn't actually ring).

Concur with the above, have just set one up for a neighbour and you have to have call guardian set to take which action you want (Block, Allow, go to ansaphone etc) and enabled.

    RE call guardian
CallGuardian is a service which is available to UK landline subscribers who also have a broadband connection.

    a) This is missing the point - the phone is capable of blocking calls
    b) The line is not b/b enabled

This should be straight forward but for some reason it isn't functioning and I've got a mother becoming more stress over these un wanted calls.

I'm wondering if there may be a setup/ activation issue that I've missed?

That's the wrong call guardian, there's a setting on the phone to enable/disable Call Guardian - if this isn't enabled, the system won't put unknown callers through the Call Guardian prompt assuming it's the BT 8500 phones (colour display rather than the mono one on the older phones)

  • Gosh it sounds too complicated for me. Im with TalkTalk and as far as Im aware Caller ID was initially an extra I was paying for, but now have it for free. The Panasonic DECT phones I have all have Caller ID and the phone itself has a capacity of 50 blocked numbers that I can save. Only takes a few seconds to "SAVE CID" and then either add the number to my existing phone book if I trust the number or add to the Block list.

The downside to all of this is that whilst the numbers can be added, only 50 in memory can be added. However I have more than one Panasonic handset and as soon as the phone gets put back on the cradle, it alerts all the other Panasonic handsets in the home.

The result is that the phone will only ring three times to indicate that a blocked number is ringing me. I also tested the Caller ID and blocking with a friend's mobile number and he says that the line keeps ringing whenever he tries to phone my land line. Caller ID evidently works.

As said you are looking at the wrong item
BT Call Guardian is found under Menu .Call Control .BT Call Guardian .
Nothing to do with internet or broadband .
