I just had a look at your thread. Those replies weren't that bad. If you really want someone to eviscerate you, try the housing, benefits or work boards.

The trick is to not ask any questions, really.
Or write long essays and give away your heart.
Also very much a depends who is asking forum.

Kind of makes a forum about money saving moot though doesn't it?0 -

Are these "guests" also thinking: "The trick is to not ask any questions, really."?
At this moment, Saturday 2nd April 2016 @ 19:49 hrs there are 5577 "guests" vs 863 "members".
As another poster once commented, should the ratio not be the other way around?0 -

At the time of your post, I was a guest.
I had logged out to do something else and not logged back in again but I did have a window open on the Arms and I was waiting to see if anyone posted anything interesting. By 9pm, nothing had caught my eye so I closed the window and watched TV instead0 -

I have been a fan of MSE for many years now and I was always impressed by the friendly and knowledgeable responses I have received.
Recently I came back here to seek a little advice about money matters and so I asked away. All I got back was sarcastic, judgmental and generally unhelpful bilge!
I know the majority of users are probably still nice, helpful people but these negative keyboard warriors are really poisoning what was an excellent community.
It's not just my questions either. I popped in to a few others to try and offer my advice. I have witnessed a young lady berated because she dared to admit she wasn't very good a reverse parking and I saw a member attacked because he dared to ask for advice on maintaining his car.
It's a shame because for me, this has ruined what was once a great and safe place to ask questions, and get non-judgmental advice back.
Sorry for the rant, I hate to see negative people ruin a good thing.
I recently saw on where one of the "resident experts" just kept repeatedly saying the same thing to the OP in an increasingly belligerent manner, as the OP was exploring the topic, and then even said they were fed up of people wasting their time (whilst posting to say the same thing yet again!).
The best way to deal with them is to block them, so you don't see their posts, and then you can see what useful replies are left.
And if someone is genuinely offensive (ie. posts an attack on you rather than the topic, then you should report them and let the mods do their job).0 -
