Faulty car part from Ebay

Just a quick question.

Purchased a Thermostat from an established ebay business for my car.

Was fitted by my local garage on the 11th March.

Today car broke down, spraying coolant everywhere. Recovery agent came out and pointed out the thermostat had broken. Car has been towed back to the garage so a new one can be fitted.

Contacted the eBay seller in regards to a refund for the faulty part. Can anything be claimed in regards to the labour costs of having the new thermostat fitted?

why didnt you get the garage to supply the part
if i buy a product from my factor then we have procedures of forms to fill in to claim for labour,asking someone on ebay is in my opinion a waste of your time

Because I supplied the part. No point discussing ifs and buts now.

Judging my the companies dodgy t&c's, i'll just write it off anyway.

what kind of garage would fit spurious parts supplied via an internet seller though?even on behalf of a tight wad:D

Just the same as a plumber letting you choose and purchase a bathroom suite, or an electrician allowing you to purchase your own light fittings.

The problem is was it the part or was it the fitting that caused it to fail?

The ads make me laugh, "Terms & conditions man" the last place I would risk getting parts from.

BoP now interjects, because I have nought else to do for 30 seconds!

OP's car had a broken thermostat, and went to garage to to enquire. Garage man said they would fit genuine part. OP, thinking better, decided he knows best and searched through some internet wizardry and found another part similar to said thermostat device far far far cheaper, and empied his poctets of cash and bought said.
He went back to garage man and said 'Sod your part, fit this!'
Garage man fitted OP's part and OP ventured off on the Queen's highway.
Suddenly, fitted thermostat device exploded and the car broke down.
OP called out man with tow truck and is lucky to be alive.
OP returned to garage and said they are at fault.

It is understood children are not involved.

Its the actual part that has failed.
