Thanks for that unfortunately this !!!!!! vista machine still thinks PDF creator is installed. It looks like they stopped developing this mid-last year. Micro$oft aren't helping, they don't seem to know how to get the image writer back on my PC either, I can't believe such a simple task isn't possible!

I even tried to manually add a printer but the driver for an image writer isn't present, just the XPS Document writer. It'd be nice to get a refund from microsoft under the trade descriptions act.

If there's anything else I can do I'm happy to try it, I've already been on a search and destroy for anything related to PDF Creator in registry and PC so no idea what is remaining!

I once heard of a microsoft MSI cleaner utility or something like that. I don't know whether it is available for vista but you could have a try. I guess that a fresh OS installation would be another option depending on how much you have spent building your system up and how important this is for you. With that beta version I have installed yesterday, I just managed to print a 16 pages doc into a tif image so this would fit your requirement exactly.

    Just did a quick search:

Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????
  • Thanks - I tried that utility sadly no joy with it, got the same error saying it's already installed. However, I right-clicked on the .msi installer for PDF Creator and clicked uninstall, at which point this came up:

    4uetjx4.jpg

So to install it, I'm told it's installed already. To remove it, I'm told it's not installed. Dejá vú?

Do they have tech support for this product at all? It's so annoying to know all the files are here if it would just install! :wall:

Full reinstall would be an option as I'm also having probs with viewing jpg pics on Media Center (DELL said I should reinstall because they're too stupid to understand what a picture is  ) but I'd need to get an external HDD first to backup all my data (around 80GB).

Yep, it seems like a fresh OS install is the only way. would also provide you with an opportunity to backup your data as these PCs can easily go wrong at anytime and 80GB worth of stuff is a lot to lose. after that just use the new beta version of PDFcreator and it should hopefully work.

BTW, I remember having exactly the same problem with images (and videos) not appearing on WMC and remember that it was a conflict with NERO of some sort. Do you have NERO installed by any chance? There was also some registry fix (incomplete) but I really can't remember exactly what the problem was as it was ages ago.

  • I don't have Nero on here so not sure what the problem is, I think vista could've done with another 12-18 months of development before release! :rotfl:

Thanks I'll look into an external HDD, sad that it has to be a full reinstall but hey I've learnt a lot through this. Any recommendations for an external hard drive? Is 500GB for £73 a good price? Not sure I'd need that capacity so there's also 320GB for £56. How's that sound? :o

  • Look what I found for free file conversions :D

    http://www.zamzar.com/

Actually, I saw it on Click (BBC NEWS 24) just now :T

£70 for 500GB, I guess that's good value if you say so! My vista PC is now taking longer than my 3 year old less than half the speed and specs XP Laptop to start up now so that reinstall isn't far away. :rotfl:
  • ok i've finally reinstalled Vista after getting my amazing new external hard drive! (took a while with xmas thrown in) and found that sourceforge have released a new version of pdf creator a few day ago...

    http://sourceforge.net/projects/pdfcreator/

Still not working though (version 0_9_5) so I uninstalled, went into the properties of the .exe file and set it to run as an XP SP2 Compatible. But during installation it came up with an error and it's still not printing.

When I do click file print the print icon appears on bottom right bar but nothing happens. On my xp machine, file print triggers a box which asks you what you want to do with the file.

If anyone can help troubleshoot I'm happy to go through all the steps you suggest, thanks people :D
