Vista compatible Image Printer wanted

Hiya, I had Microsoft's own image writer on my system but after doing a system restore that printer option has disappeared.
The reason I need it is that I print letters as .tif files then fax them using the separate fax software (because microsoft decided you need to get vista ultimate if you are to be allowed a fax system).
Without the image printing software I can't send faxes and having searched the internet for a couple of days I only find trial versions, are there really no free printer drivers for this type of software?
Of course another thing is how the microsoft image writer got on my computer before, I tried to scour the microsoft.com website but found nothing to download, any help would be appreciated.
Tbh, if anyone could find a fax software which works seamlessly with vista home premium that'd also be great as I wouldn't need to print files as .tif then import them to the fax software and jump through hoops all the times!

Hi. I use FastStone Capture (I like the portable version that doesn't need installing and carry it with me on USB drive). I think you have to pay for it now but version 5.3 (the last free one I think) is still available if you do a search. Works like magic and can capture anything into an image file. Hope this helps.Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????0

That's a nice little tool, thanks!
What I'm trying to do is get a 2-page letter from word into an image file to then fax with a different program for faxing (only accepts img files) - I tried the scrolling capture which didn't seem to get on with me and only saved what was visible on screen, i.e. not the whole document, any ideas?

Never had a problem but make sure that you have the scroll bar at the upper most part of the page you are trying to capture first and it should work. You can also try PDFCreator if you wish which can print onto image files as well as PDFs.wannabemedic wrote: »That's a nice little tool, thanks!

BTW, what software are you using for faxing on vista?Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????0 -
It's called callcentre pro, someone gave me a link on here but I can't find it, this is what google throws up but the site is down http://www.v3inc.com/freecc.htm
I'll look through the help files and see why it won't capture the whole document, I bet it's something uber simple too

It's still not capturing the whole word document :wall:
Anyone know how I can get that microsoft image writer (printer driver) back on the system? I have a feeling it came from the office 2007 package but really not sure

I'm getting this error when I try to install PDF Creator - is it not compatible with vista?

I downloaded the 'with ghostscript' and then I tried the 'msi package installer' - the installer wouldn't work because of some error. This was version 9.3

Anyone? It's listed in the article about free software but is there really no vista compatible version yet?

Thanks for that - I keep being told to uninstall it...

I've uninstalled it though, even used CCleaner to make sure it's all gone, no trace left. No trace of anything in the registry either - how on earth do I install this again :wall:0
