More details here:wannabemedic wrote: »Thanks for that - I keep being told to uninstall it...
I've uninstalled it though, even used CCleaner to make sure it's all gone, no trace left. No trace of anything in the registry either - how on earth do I install this again :wall:

That is the problem when using .msi installer. Just use the .exe file with ghostscript.Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????0 -
Yeah I tried the ghostscript .exe file that's the error I'm getting, it thinks it's already installed but it isn't! :wall: That means I can't install in server mode as in that linkMore details here:

What's the /ForceInstall command line parameter all about, that looks like my only option here, how's that work?

If you try installing .msi on Vista with UAC enabled, it will leave itself in a bad state, you can't even uninstall it. Some have reported that it breaks all printers on their system. To get rid of it, you will need to disable UAC, reboot, uninstall, enable UAC, and reboot.Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????0

OK - currently it's uninstalled (can't find it on CCleaner or on control panel > uninstall). I've disabled UAC and restarted, still not installing. Should I try to install the .msi again, then remove it with the UAC disabled?0

Just followed the instruction on the website in my post #10 above:
"Right click the downloaded EXE file and select properties
Go to the compatibility tab and check run it in compatibility mode for xp
Click apply and close that window
Right click the install file and select run as administrator...go through the install making sure to install in SERVER mode"
worked perfectly for me.Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????0 -
I thought I just replied here but it's gone

Anyway, I'm using the .exe file, done everything there and entered installation. It goes to step 1 where I'm asked for language selection, then it goes straight to the error in post #11.
I've also gone into the registry and deleted the keys for anything to do with pdf creator, but still this is persisting, why does it think it's already installed, this is driving me nuts!! :wall:0 -
Sorry wannabe but can't understand why it is not working for you. don't know whether the fact that I am using vista ultimate makes any difference. Hope you manage to get it sorted as it is great (shame not vista compatible out of the box but works on my two PCs running vista).Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????0

Thanks I appreciate the time you've given to helping outSorry wannabe but can't understand why it is not working for you. don't know whether the fact that I am using vista ultimate makes any difference. What I really need this image writer for is to print as a .tif so I can then send faxes through that program mentioned in post #5 (you see, Micro$oft decided only to include 'windows fax and scan' on vista ultimate - I only have home premium). If there was a seamless fax program with vista I'd happy just use that. Sadly there isn't, yet :wall:0 -
OK try this one. it is in beta still but I have just tried it and it worked straight away without the need to make any changes.

Hope this works.Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????0 -
Thanks for that unfortunately this !!!!!! vista machine still thinks PDF creator is installed. It looks like they stopped developing this mid-last year. Micro$oft aren't helping, they don't seem to know how to get the image writer back on my PC either, I can't believe such a simple task isn't possible!
I even tried to manually add a printer but the driver for an image writer isn't present, just the XPS Document writer. It'd be nice to get a refund from microsoft under the trade descriptions act.
If there's anything else I can do I'm happy to try it, I've already been on a search and destroy for anything related to PDF Creator in registry and PC so no idea what is remaining!0
