O/S Daily Thursday 31 March 2016
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.
Morning everyone
Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x
Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them x
Now getting light, dry underfoot but there’s been a frost, so air feels chilly.
DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early. DS1 up and getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit as he’s on school hols.
Dinner last night was breaded chicken pieces, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg – I’d planned for fish, chips and beans but the fish was eaten at the weekend when meals were moved and I’d forgotten until I went to get it out of the freezer last night, so luckily had something else that I could use. It has helped declutter another item from the freezer though. The outside freezer really needs defrosting – so something else to put on the “to do” list. Did remember to get the chicken breast out to defrost – tonight we’ll be having chicken, bacon and mushroom in a creamy mushroom or white wine sauce, I’ll do either pasta with it or mash and veg, I haven’t decided yet.
Work yesterday wasn’t as busy as expected but when I stayed to do the extra hours in the afternoon that was telephone based and the calls just kept coming through, 1 of my colleagues was on another phone line in the next office and she found the same, just continuous calls one after another, customers were complaining they were waiting for 20 minutes and more to speak someone but our supervisor did say there wasn’t enough staff on the telephones so no wonder we were busy!
I’m now on my days’ off – pleased even though I’ve only worked 2 days – next week will be worse as 1 April tomorrow and the masses will hit the office tomorrow and Monday – our main Manager is coming over to work with us on Monday that’ll be interesting then! He can see for himself just what we put up with and the results of his actions! As long as he doesn’t hide in the back office the whole time he’s there?! And someone somewhere has decided that works are needed to the computer system so for tomorrow and Monday we have no computer access to the part of the system we need especially at the start of new council tax/financial year – these people have no idea!
Today I’ll be washing, drying and ironing, need to do some housework too.
Keep safe and well x

Morning All
Nothing happening here apart from usual daily stuff, 2 days to the holidays!
Hugs to all. Take care. XX0 -
Morning, I will be doing the same thing each day this week. Sone paperwork in the morning, whatever I need to do at home in the afternoon, rinse and repeat until Monday.
I have washing in the machine waiting for an extra rinse, then that can go out.
DH left the heating on overnight and the back door unlocked. Fortunately the burglars were looking the other way but oh dear the gas bill.
Last night's dinner wax a pasta bake and salad, tonight I might make lemon and parsley chicken.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Thanks for the thread nmlc. Enjoy your days off.
Morning everyone. Cloudy but light outside with a forecast of dun today, we'll see!
After two weeks of waiting it's all systems go now. Everything is now sorted and we fly out tomorrow. I'm going for a week whilst number 1 nephew is having a bit longer with his other two brothers. I'm off to Glasgow today to have an overnight stay with my Mum before my flight st 2.15pm on Friday.
My BSD went a bit to pot last nightI had a very small Chinese takeaway- no sauce, rice or noodles - think it was a stress / comfort thing. However, I was delighted to find that a jacket I couldn't get into last week fitted perfectly yesterday so that can be packed and is perfect for the funeral. After the coming week I can get back on the wagon again and carry on.
Just a last minute arranging of suitcase and hand luggage to sort out. And a change of handbag too, I'll use my big one for the journey and pack my small one for being there. I dislike using a big bag as 1) I can't find anything and 2) I end up carrying everyone else's stuff.
I'll do a wash before I go off too, it'll,dry on the airers whilst away. Breakfast will be yogurt and blueberries and I've got a chicken thigh to eat before leaving.
Thanks so much to everyone for wishes and support, it's been a long wait since my nephew died on 20 March but we're at the final part now.
Happy Thursday.0 -
Morning all,
Well the holiday was short lived. Less than 24 hours after we arrived I got a call from the senior carer at the residential home suggesting I come back.
I have stayed with Mother overnight. She is unconscious but her breathing is quick and shallow. I'm hoping it won't be long...for her sake not mine. My brother and his girlfriend have stayed too. The atmosphere is a bit strained but ok.
Not sure how long I can stay without food or sleep but I'll get hubby to bring me something when he wakes.
I've got a feeling it's going to be a long day. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Gers, safe journey and my thoughts are with you.0 -
Morning all,
Dry and bright here atm off to work for me and another busy day in store its a horse / pony day today.
Was just dropping off to sleep last night when I heard lots of vehicles and shouting outside, looked out the window to see two fire engines a police car and an ambulance, turns out that a newish neighbour has been suffering from depression and is a raging alcoholic had set fire to her flat she has done this several times before apparently and is self harming, she was taken off in an ambulance but its clearly not safe for her to live alone, had it been in the middle of the night several houses could have been affected.
Dinner tonight will be something and chips, will go and look in the freezer after this, need to do a wash tonight too.
Judi thinking of you today, I hope its a peaceful passing xxx
Gers safe journey xxx0 -
