Simply asking for opinions on the options to enable me to do just that - make up my mind. If you haven't got a useful opinion on my potential choices why bother to post?

You were very specific and were given your answers that showed by a large margin the Panda was the car of choice.

Not looking for alternative cars, just views on these two.

So go and buy a Panda!

You have since moved the goalposts and got all sarccy!

There you go again, and if I've got all sarky, maybe look at your own posts to see why!

So am I not allowed to alter the goalposts a little on my own thread now?

The original questions were answered. I posted that the Smart was out, and before making my decision I came back to pose the same questions on two other cars versus the Panda.

I guess if I'd started a separate thread for the second pair I'd have got called for that as well then.

Like I've said before they are simple questions, if you don't want to help just ignore the thread, it's that easy.

And maybe concentrate on giving correct information, you do remember s b correcting your earlier post?

Why on earth would you discount a car purely on the opinions of strangers who will all have their own ideas of what constitutes a 'good' car for retirement?

Take your options for a test drive, compare them to your own priorities and take it from there.

I have owned two Smarts and both were ultra reliable - not one breakdown in all the years of ownership BUT both were bought from new and were driven sensibly for the first 1k to ease them in gently.

At the time my mum was a regular passenger and she found getting in and out to be far easier that my other car - a Volvo V40 - as it was higher up. I also used to get her disabled buggy in the back with no problem at all... Smarts are a lot roomier than people think.

You need to establish your own priorities - be they budget, running costs, space, ease of access, 4x4, auto or whatever.... because YOUR ideal car will not be the same as mine or most other people on here.

Plus, why not lose the attitude as well... you asked for opinions and got them.

Why on earth would you discount a car purely on the opinions of strangers who will all have their own ideas of what constitutes a 'good' car for retirement? Because those opinions pointed me to look further at the reliability of of the cars and I didn't like what I read about the newer MHD type Smart.

Take your options for a test drive, compare them to your own priorities and take it from there. Thank you, I fully intend to do that.

I have owned two Smarts and both were ultra reliable - not one breakdown in all the years of ownership BUT both were bought from new and were driven sensibly for the first 1k to ease them in gently. However I would be buying used, not new. Glad you had two reliable Smarts, how old where they when you changed them though?

At the time my mum was a regular passenger and she found getting in and out to be far easier that my other car - a Volvo V40 - as it was higher up. I also used to get her disabled buggy in the back with no problem at all... Smarts are a lot roomier than people think. The access was one of the reasons I originally considered the Smart.

You need to establish your own priorities - be they budget, running costs, space, ease of access, 4x4, auto or whatever.... because YOUR ideal car will not be the same as mine or most other people on here. I have, hence the specific models and questions.

Plus, why not lose the attitude as well... you asked for opinions and got them.

I don't have an attitude, neither do I see anything wrong with asking people to stick to answering the questions I asked.

I do however object to being "spoken" to as though we are on the Discussion Time board, which some of the above posters have done, hence my comments to them.

    Thanks for your input.
  • IMHO, the smart thing to do would be to not buy a SMART :D

Interesting. OP derails his own thread by accusing others of derailing his thread.

Thanks for the responses so far.

The Smart is out then, two other options I might consider are a 1.1 Kia Picanto or a Hyundai i10 1.2. both of around 2010 or slightly newer.

Any views on these versus the Panda in my original question, please.

    Both will be reliable.

I would go for the newer Picanto though not the 2010 model.

i10 was considered when I bought my Picanto but discounted by my daughter as ugly, which is true it doesn't look as nice as the Picanto.

i10 is probably a good choice. Maybe not as "chic" as a Panda but likely to be more reliable.

I would have no issues driving a Panda.

Not what I'm doing at all.

I know my own limitations from a health and ability point of view in regards to driving, so don't expect to need a car longer than 8 years more likely 5.

As I said to agrinnall, please stick to answering the questions if you can, if not please don't post as it doesn't help me and just derails the thread.

The last comment was not overly polite.

Why did you feel the need to answer in that way?
