All I know is I'm glad I don't live somewhere shoe boxes cost £300K.
To be fair, it's not really a shoe box. It's nearly 600 sq feet and the rooms are a fair size - and there's that spot of outside space (where you wouldn't dare drink alcohol as that looks like a heck of a drop) ... but it's somewhere to sit and have a coffee while your knickers are drying on the whirlygig washing line.0 -
When we were enquiring about buying a flat in Bath, with the idea of letting it out when we weren't using it, we were told that, unless it had a separate entrance, for its sole use, it was unlikely that we could do that. Most, if not all, places with shared entrances/hallways (this one seems to have stairs down to access it from a ground-floor front entrance) would have restrictions prohibiting such short-term rentals. So that's something that may need checking before you go too far... Presume, if it's true, that this would apply in most places; not just Bath!0

If you want to get technical I think most variations of airbnb are illegal according to some law or other, but it is still ubiquitous.I think Uber is probably illegal too...0 -

No skin off my nose, but if your communal entrance-sharing neighbours don't like a ever-changing troupe of unknowns going in & out, they could soon kick off.0 -

Its a fair point. The problem is so rampant in Barcelona they are taking action, and possibly designating tourist only buildings.
For me though... - and of course it depends a lot on the context, I would consider risking it. I've rented a ton of airbnbs and I am a big fan, so suitability is something I am going to consider in my house hunting.0 -
Hmm. I'd have classed buying a property with the intention of doing something that you know to be forbidden - by bylaw or the lease - as quite an unsustainable plan...For me though... - and of course it depends a lot on the context, I would consider risking it. It's not my primary intention just a bonus if it works out.0
