Thank you for your replies. I will see if I can stretch my budget to a miele which seems to be around £600 mark..0

LG all the way. Direct drive motor, no brushes to worry about. Mine is going strong without problems for over 12 years. Most of it's life as been put through 2/3 washes a day. Cheaper than these Miele but every bit as good. There is another thread asking the same question as yourself, check it out.0

Grundig is owned by Koc Holding (yes, really) and is simply a brand used exclusively to market them via Argos in the UK. Koc Holding is part of the Turkish Arcelik group that also owns Beko, You can see why they needed an alternative brand name to market in English language markets....
So what you've bought is probably a badged up Beko.
If you were expecting Grundig to be German designed and built then you're years too late-they went bankrupt in 2003.
Buying a machine for say £300 that only last 2 years is a real false economy. Over 10 years that would cost you £1500!
I thought Beko were part of the Hugh Janus Group (Headed by Baroness Jenny Taylor)0 -

Direct drive does not mean a brushless motor, if that's what you were suggesting? It means that there is a mechanical gearing from motor to drum, rather than a belt. This is marketed as improved technology but has no proven benefits, as w/m belts very rarely give problems. And the direct drive system takes up a lot of drum space and adds to the bearing loads. I don't think any other manufacturers have adopted it.
I've no idea if the LG has a brushless motor as well, they're common on many machines now from Bosch and others.
Yours has done very well but I wouldn't rate LG in the Miele class. No free lunch, and no free laptop0
