BT exsiting customer offers

Is closing an account and setting up a new one in a different name but at the same address a simple enough process?0

I rang BT as I'm out of contract, saying I wanted to cancel, and they halved the broadband price almost straight away. It still would have been worth switching for me.... except that I had moved recently, with my BT internet, which automatically put my on a new 12 month line rental contract, which I would have had to buy my way out of.0

As you havefound BT dont really do deals for existing customers. In fact the way they do business almost forces customers to leave after the initial lock in.
New customers get 12 month min terms and huge discounts. After that 12 months costs can almost double. If you are really lucky you may get offered about 20% but you will then be tied in for a further 18 months.
So your options after the first 12 months are:
Pay twice the cost you can get the service from elsewhere (but at least you can leave when you want).
Or
Pay significantly more than you can get the same service from elsewhere and be stuck for 18 months.
Its a wonder why anyone stays with them. customer turnover must be massive.OneLeggedPig wrote: »I rang BT as I'm out of contract, saying I wanted to cancel, and they halved the broadband price almost straight away. The latter quote above is how I have found it. When my contract with BT expired last year, I rang and asked for a deal which I got. They reduced my broadband to £5 per month for 12 months with a new contract. I shall approach them again in August and ask for the same again. If I don't get it, I will probably move to Sky as I had a terrible experience with TalkTalk in 2014."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0 -

Yeah, it's definitely well worth ten minutes on the phone. The person I spoke to was friendly and helpful.
That said, if I hadn't had line rental that I would have had to pay to get out of, I would have switched as the offers for new customers available (free broadband plus cashback and vouchers and the like) are so good.0 -
I called yesterday - wanted info on how to leave and declined the advisor's first 2 offers. The 3rd one was good. Its a cheap 3 months cheap price and then 9 months discounted. It worked our as 20% discount for the year. I have infinity 1 and Bt Sports in HD.
I was told to call in month 9 to review the deal again.0
