Congratulations OP on standing up for yourself at last:T
I know it's difficult for some people to believe that there are people that have parents like this woman. It took a long time to convince me that there are some awful awful people that become parents and are totally unfitted to the position. With that these "unfit for (parental) purpose" people are likely to continue the same attitude on into adulthood.
Many of us are lucky that (even if we are old enough that our parents didnt necessarily get to choose whether to have us or no in the first place - ie we were born pre 1970s and onwards) have, nevertheless had a responsible set of parents - that have got on with things and genuinely done their best to be responsible in their attitude to us and to bring us up to be responsible people in turn.
Not everyone is so lucky - and OP obviously got "one of the Others" as a mother.
Well - good for him that he finally stood up to her.0 -

Nobody finds it hard to believe that there are "awful people". It's just that some us can recognise a story with more holes than a colander.
Why do you think he paid off all the debts and moved into the house of this "awful woman"?
IF (a huge if) the basics of the story are true, he's hiding a huge amount of her side of the story. Or, he's completely insane. Can you come up with a good reason for him having done this?0 -
Some people do find it very difficult to stand up for themselves - I've witnessed enough.
I think those of us that are capable of standing up for ourselves are either born into the type of background where people tend to be "confident" or have had to work hard over the years and have brought ourselves to a stage where we can/do stand up for ourselves. Some of us have witnessed enough of those famous middle class "sharp elbows" that we changed our own elbows to match - if need be....
Not everyone is like that though..0 -
peonally, I would be checking that she hasn't mortgaged any of the house again for her gambling addiction.
And I would be ripping out any extrs I may have put in her 'half' and removing the barricades.
i would also probably invite a farmer to leave some goats in the gardens for a couple of days......
If she's making your life rubbish because she's such a selfish git, I'd be using the same tactics.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0 -

Irrelevant. I know some people are easily pushed around.
They don't pay off all the debts of someone awful, and then move into their house, and then complain about it, though.
The fact that some people are awful and some are pushovers does not mean that the most unlikely story is true just because it contains examples of both.
Bears exist, but you wouldn't believe me if I claimed there was a bear in my garden.
Again, can you come up with a good reason for his supposed behaviour even if you grant he's bad at standing up for himself? He chose to pay off the debts and move into the house. And his wife, apparently, agreed.0
