But is there anything to stop you installing a swing set in the garden for your kids to play with?
True - that surely she would have to be hard indeed to try denying her own grandchildren a chance to play.....0 -

I think it's pretty obvious that she doesn't give a t*ss about anyone other than herself.
Considering that she won't allow her grandchildren to even have a bedroom, I think the chances of her sabotaging the swing are quite high and I for one wouldn't risk it :eek:0 -
I'm surprised nobody's come round selling popcorn yet.0

Yes, sadly invested a lot of money in an upstairs kitchen - only because she said she would give me the upstairs room back.
So where did you put this upstairs kitchen?
You want an upstairs room back as you need another bedroom, yet you had a spare room available to fit a kitchen?

I suppose we couldnt put it past her - so yep...vigilance before letting them use it and a very severe warning given to her "You injure them by doing anything like that - and I'll see you in trouble with the law sooner than wink".
On the other hand - Hmm...somehow I cant quite picture OP doing that......or he wouldnt be in this mess with her in the first place if he was prepared to "put his foot down" with her.0 -

OP says house was bought for £40k to £50k in 1970. That's 46 years ago. Unless it's in somewhere like Kensington & Chelsea or Westminster I would have thought it must be a pretty substantial property. I don't understand how OP has found space for an upstairs kitchen(?!) yet he and his family don't have any where to sleep properly.
The OP has already spent at least £126k paying off debts and mortgage (excluding the cost of installing an "upstairs kitchen"!) in return for nothing - except for 50% of what may or may not be a substantial property.
How much is the property worth? Is it worth forcing a sale to try to recover what you've already sunk in it? How can you afford to chuck away up to £150k? I presume since you paid off your mother's debts dad has washed his hands of this?0 -
Substantial!!!!!
My grandparents' 3 bed semi was sold for less than £4K in 1970, £40K would have bought a mansion!!If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0
