It's the best way to spend abroad ... you don't have to take a whole lotta money with you that way!I can say whatever I like here ... 'cos no one can see me .. ner ner ner ner ner !!!....How do you know I ain't sitting here butt naked?!?!I thunk I've made you think for a minute!:j :rotfl: :j0 -
Yea, can recommend nationwide, but if you need to get some over here Post office or big travel agents by us seem to do 0% for cash exchange all seem to be around 1.40-1.42 euros per £1 but it does change daily.
I just changed £21.13 at 1.42 euro per £1 giving me 30 euros at my local West Midlands co-op and they dont mind small amounts:j0 -
Even if you don't bank with Nationwide, it's still cheaper to use your cashcard abroad than buying before you go. The typical 1.5% commission on the bank exchange rate is far better than 0% commission on a much poorer tourist rate. I usually make sure I've got £20-30 worth of currency before I go just in case there isn't an ATM in the airport, but get the rest out when I'm over there.0

Marks & Spencers usually have the best advertised rate where I live, just beating the Post Office and American Express. If you can, a good idea is to check the M&S rate on the day and then pop into Thomas Cook travel agents, as their staff often seem to have the freedom to come down from their advertised rate to beat the best in town.
Much better to just buy enough Euros here for your first few hours of your trip, then to get the rest at your destination, whether at an ATM with a Nationwide card or at the best local currency exchange. (Of course you can't always rely on either of the above if you're going somewhere remote.)0 -
the travelex on line is the best, if you pre order and pick it up at the airport! I went away with a couple of friends and 2 of us pre ordered and picked up at the airport we got 1.42 and the other friend bought them from travelex at the airport at the same time as we collected ours and ended up with something like 1.39, and there had not been any fluctuations in the rate!
also you get a good rate at marks and spencers, and if you use your m and s charge card (not credit card) you don't have to pay for them till your next statement and do not have to pay any extra!0 -
I found www.travelex.co.uk the cheapest, best to order it online for best rate and pick up from the airport, don't use a Visa card though, I did and was charges an extra £20!!!2p off is still 2p off!0

I concour, I use always use Travelex on-line to reserve my money and then collect at the airport. On my last trip to Hawaii their US$ on-line rate was 10cents more then their walk-in airport rate and much better than the Postoffice and any of the banksof course this can change on a daily basis.
