Nationwide FlexDirect account

I've recently applied for this account, but I cannot believe how long it takes to get the account up set up.

I've now received my welcome pack confirming account details and customer number. I think I can deposit funds.

Do I have to register for internet banking, or is this all part of the opening process for new customers.

Have not received any log in details yet or any cards.

If the welcome pack says nothing and as it is an internet-based account with "Register now" option, then nothing stops you from registering now. You don't need your card for this.

I recently opened one of these accounts - it took 21 days and the pin, card, card reader etc arrived in dribs and drabs over the period of about 10 days.
When I got my welcome pack I tried to register for internet banking but it wouldn't let me and told me to wait for my pin and card reader to arrive - The Flexdirect is an internet account so the internet banking was part of the process. I made a bacs payment (from another bank) once I had the account number and sort code and that was fine - otherwise I might have missed the minimum payment requirement within 28 days of opening the account...

I would never deposit any funds into any account unless I have the means to withdraw my money when I see fit. Not having all of internet access, a debit card and PIN, and a card reader in the case of Nationwide means you could not make withdrawals from your FlexDirect.

Nationwide are, for unknown reasons, notoriously slow with internet access & providing a card reader to new customers. Once you got over that hurdle, adding further accounts, and operating your accounts, is a doddle.

I recently applied for this account. I received a letter telling me account was open and it gave me my account number/sort code. There was also a request for ID.

I sent the ID off and then I tried to transfer some money into the account, which was reversed straight away.

They were relatively quick in returning the ID docs and then I was able to transfer funds into the account.

I've received my online banking log in details but I haven't as of yet received the card reader, which is required to log in. I just found an old natwest card reader and used that to register/log in.

You are right, you can use readers from some other banks but you need to be aware that some banks won't let you use a card reader unless they have physically despatched one to you. Not sue whether Nationwide fall into this category but I know Natwest and Barclays do.

You can also pop into a Nationwide Branch and pick up one of their card readers. there and then.

I'm having this issue too! Unbelievable how slow and archaic their system is. I mean I opened a TSB account earlier this year and it was bam, bam, bam. Finally got my card and PIN and I've transferred my money in. I'm just using it as a savings account rather than an actual current account but it's still incredibly slow!

Yes I remember when I opened my natwest account and tried to make an online transfer and I needed a card reader, as it was a new recipient.

I ordered it and it said it would take 3-5 days or something. I then got my mothers natwest card reader (thinking I was a genius) and it wouldn't let me access the transfer page, as the system obviously hadnt recorded the card reader as having been dispatched.

    Extremely frustrating.

I presume my Nationwide card reader is in the post anyway.

On the advice of people on here, when I opened my FlexDirect I did it in store, having made an appointment with the branch manager. It was open and accessible by the time I'd cycled home.

I applied for this account around 10th March and to date, I've only received my PIN, confirmation of account opening (welcome letter) and only received the card reader yesterday!

Will it take another 2 weeks for internet / telephaone banking details and my actual card to turn up?

As you can understand, I have not deposited any funds into the account yet. Will I have lost on the first of the 12 months 5% interest?

Is it really this slow, or is something wrong (lost mail etc)?

    Give them a ring.

I switched to a flex direct about a month ago and nothing seemed to happen for a couple of weeks, contacted them and found their progress emails had gone into my junk folder.
