Sofa delivery to a 4th floor flat - argos?

Hi All
Sorry if this is posted in the wrong place!
I just wanted to see if anyone has had any luck recently with having large items of furniture delivered into an upper floor flat rather than it only being carried up to the main/communal entrance door and being left there? And if so, what companies did you order from?
I've been looking at buying a sofa from argos, as well as a few other large items ... most of which are flat packed and I could probably manage on my own, but the sofa will be the biggest problem.
My flat is going to be on the 4th floor, and there is no lift! There are 39 stairs to get to my actual front door.
I have contacted Argos about it who gave a response along the lines of, 'we will take the items up to a room of choice, but only if the delivery team doesn't deem it to be dangerous or a H&S issue. We cannot guarantee whether this will be the case until the delivery team actually arrive and assess where they need to take it to'. Which I suppose is fair enough ... but means I would basically need to place an order, and wait for them to turn up with the items, and hope for the best. If they refuse to take it past the communal front door then I would have to refuse the delivery and ask for a refund.
I've looked online but cannot find any posts about recent experiences with them or other retailers.
So if any of you can share any experiences I would be grateful

I believe if you ask dfs will send someone round to your flat before you order a sofa to confirm that they can get it into your room of choice.0

Arrange help from friends/relatives/colleagues/neighbours otherwise your restricting your choice of retailer and price, also worth trying independent retailers.0

I'm relocating for work purposes so won't have anyone to hand at short notice to help (unless I meet a nice new neighbour willing to offer a hand in exchange for a cup of tea). As a last resort I may have to ask my brother to come up and hope the delivery turns up on the right day/time so we can carry it together ... it will be a lot of hassle though. Was hoping to find a retailer that would definitely bring it up for me just to make things a little easier.

Is it a case where the lift is broken or are there no lifts in the building? I ask because I assumed there would have to be lifts for disabled people etc..0

There is no lift in the building at all - there are 12 flats spread over 4 floors. When I've lived in flats before and they have been 3 stories or more, there has always been a lift. Not sure why they decided not to put 1 in0 -

I've lived in 3/4 story new flats with no lifts.
Anyway I'm assuming (and could be wrong) that you won't be living in the flat for the rest of your life so buy a sofa you like from a retailer you want, and make sure it's something you and a friend(s) can move on and out yourself, because one day you'll have to move it back out!
IKEA do some nice sofas though, which you assemble yourself! I have a karlstad I think, lasted a good five years and I sold it for £80 after I was done with it, and I took it apart and put it back together as well when I moved (ikea said not to in the guidance but it did it no harm!)0 -

I didn't know IKEA made sofas you can take apart! I'll have to look into it and see what I can find.
For me personally, getting the furniture in is the only real drawback to living on the top floor. When I eventually move out I'd probably hire a moving company and they can do all the work0 -
I think most IKEA sofas are flat pack? I didn't pick it for that reason but that's how it came! I'd recommend going in and trying them tho, some are very cheap but a bit hard. The karlstad was very comfy tho if you like the style.0

M&S delivered a sofa to a second floor flat for me.
Some companies clearly state they won't, so if you state in the delivery instructions that it isb4th floor with stair access, then at least it would be unfair for them to charge you anything should they refuse!Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0
