Factory reset on Moto G - what will I lose?

I've been having problems with my Moto G 2nd gen for a while. I cleared the cache a couple of days ago but it hasn't helped.
I upgraded it to Marshmallow and have a 32gb memory card which I have currently set to internal storage, rather than portable storage.
If I do a factory reset what will I lose? I have the Google photo app so am I right in assuming I won't lose my photos and videos.
I'm not sure if my contacts are stored on my SIM card and/ or on the phone itself. How can I find out?
Will I lose my texts? I'm assuming I will get my WhatsApp messages/contacts back when I reinstall it.
Would greatly appreciate any help before I throw this phone out of the window.

If you factory reset your phone it will return to the state it was when bought new. All personal data and downloaded apps will be gone. Text messages will be gone. All settings will be back at the defaults. Any data backed up to your Google account will be unaffected and can be restored back to the phone. Anything not backed up will be lost.0 -

Upload all photos to Google drive.
Login to Gmail on a pc and see if the contacts are listed.
You can choose to export contacts to a .vcf file from the contacts screen.
I use a nexus 5 though.
I've backed up before and any photos and contacts were backed up before I did a factory rest0 -

As posted above your contacts should be backed up to your Google account.
Sign in from your computer with your Gmail details and they should be there for you. It's not your credit score that counts, it's your credit history. Any replies are my own personal opinion and not a representation of my employer.0 -
Have a look in Google Drive, maybe there's an option you can choose where photos are automatically stored in Google drive.

I thought that if I did a factory reset the photos would still be stored in the Google photos app? Or is that me being thick?
I've got photos in there from as far back as July 2012 which is when I got my first Android phone and I've had several since.3 stone down, 3 more to go0 -

As i say I've done a reset before and I don't recall having to do anything really photos.
If your confident the photos are backed up in the Drive app and contacts are backed up then carry out the reset.
Have you tried uploading the photos to Drive and then deleting them from the phone.0 -

Most of them aren't stored on the phone, they're on Google photos. Even the ones on the phone are backed up on Google photos.3 stone down, 3 more to go0
