Do I have to use Sky's router?

I wasn't aware of that, I used wireshark, which was the software i was referring to but couldn't recall the name of at the time. Bit of a faff, but it did the job, and the ebay-sourced TT router I am now using has much superior wi-fi range to standard Sky router. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Those of us that are former O2 customers were given those details at changeover to Sky.
I've used those settings at various times with an unlocked BT router and my current faithful Netgear with the DG Team firmware.
The only time I've used the Sky router was when it was delivered and then just to check it worked.Move along, nothing to see.0
