£3.75 Tax charged on clothing return?

Purchased a top of Tokyo laundry and had to return it due to being too big. (Size was defo not a large as indicated)

I was happy to send it back using their prepaid postage at £3.50 even though it seemed expensive considering I was dropping it off at a collection point.

They haven then went and charged me £3.75 tax?

What is this, overall it has cost me just under £7 to return 1 single item that I dont want!

Is this normal or should I complain?

Tokyo Laundry appears to be the trading name of Etail Solutions Limited, a company registered in England under registration number 8090085.

I can't see anything in their terms and conditions about the tax you mention, so I think you'll have to ask them for an explanation.

Considering their returns address is "Tokyo Laundry, Returns Department, Unit 14, Park Seventeen, Whitefield, M45 8FJ" I can't see why you'd be charged a fee for "tax".

I'd give them a ring to explain what that is.

BTW, the initial £3.50 returns cost is quite reasonable, you may well have dropped it off at a Collect+ site but they still have to courier it back to the retailer.

Also, what do you actually mean by they've charged you £3.75 tax, have they sent you an invoice asking you to pay that amount, or charged your payment card an additional £3.75, or have they simply sent you the original VAT invoice showing the VAT amount of £3.75?

I was originally charged £25.48 based on my CC statement, I was refunded £18.99.

My last reply was:
This is not correct, I am looking at my statement. I have been charged £25.48 and then refunded £18.99. This means I have been charged a total of £6.49 (Please check your records)

I am not happy that I have to review my statements and check your invoices to ensure you have processed a refund correctly!

I e-mailed customer services and received a reply:

Hi XXXXX,

Thanks for getting in touch and apologies for the confusion.

The tax is included in the price of the items so you’ve not been charged extra for this.

We have only deducted £3.50 off your return for using our prepaid labels.

Hope this clears things up and please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you need anything else.

They should not be removing this
