He says the brake peddle was to the floor and the car still didn't stop.
lol yes he does but.. he did say fault 2, you were talking bout fault 3 I believe0 -

he has probably been very wound up on another thread, biijit tends to do that
anyway what is the autohold witchcraft...;)
personally I would be terrified of driving that vehicle after the first event and flat out refused to drive it until sorted after the second, can you imagine if a pedestrian had decided to cross in front of you...0 -

So why didn't you say that?renzotiger wrote: »Do you have any valid advice or yiu just on here to pick faults and wind people up?
Just here to pick faults and wind people up, thanks. Oh ... and correct people's misinterpretations.0 -

Why wasnt this enough of a give away? "Ended up completely depressing the footbrake car continued to slow down but not stop. No skidding but bumped the car in front slightly, no damage to his car."0 -
If there is an issue with auto hold I would just stick to the usual handbrake until it's fixed.
I've used auto hold about 2-3 times in nearly 3 years in my mk7.
I don't really see the need for it, the brake releases itself if I pull away and the handbrake is a flick of the switch anyway.0 -
I expect there's dozens of mishaps every day with people getting used to their cars doing the driving for them.
Autohold being a point in question, but the same issues can be found with electric parking brakes and other pointless gimmicks.
When you come to rely on such things, the car and no longer you the driver is in control, the car rolled away, was it the auto or hill hold or was it the electric parking brake (if it has one) releasing itself or are they the same thing?
Either way these things have no place on a car because they take the responsibility of controlling the vehicle away from the driver, and provide a handy excuse when things go wrong too.
If you pulled up and applied a proper handbrake the car would have gone nowhere, and this will always be the case, but as electronics take over because people can't control their vehicles any more, then driver competence will decline, and on it goes.
Total brake failure is another thing altogether, i know VW make some average but overrated stuff these days but total failure on a 2 year old car is pushing it.
Was the engine running in fault 3, because it sounds to me like the servo vacuum was either missing or used up.0 -

Probably will do in future, but its a feature of the car that i find useful. Incidentally, when they fixed the autohold they replaced the handbrake unit, thats where the autohold component is housed.
Ive driven it for nearly 18 months & always used autohold, its never been a problem until now.0 -
Like others I fail to follow the brake pedal to the floor bit. This sounds like faulty servo, leaking brake cylinder, lack of brake fluid or brake fluid contaminated.
So when was the car serviced and has the brake fluid been changed as per the service schedule?0 -

I wouldnt class myself as an incompetent driver, im just using the technology the manufacturer has installed. It was autohold, it doesnt have a hill hold. I think cars are one or the other these days.
Fault 3 the engine was running, i was reducing from about 35mph over a distance of about 50m. I could see the stationary car at the bottom of the hill0 -

I think this is probably the scariest part of it, if that car hadnt have been there to stop me, i was out on a busy main road. Its a 64 plate with 22k miles on the clock. Ive had it since new and has been serviced in accordance with the manufacturers schedule at the retailers where i bought it0
