Hi team, im having a nightmare with my 64 plate Golf GTD. Ive brought up with the retailer 3 significant faults that have occurred over the past 3 months. 2 weeks ago one of them caused a very minor collision to a stationary vehicle in front of me. I then had another small collision which thankfully caused no further damage.
Fault 1 occurred in December. I had problems getting the car to park & the auto handbrake to operate. Had to use footbrake, switch ignition off then back on again to get autohold & handbrake to work.
Fault 2 occured driving into work. I was stopped at the gate, autohold engaged with correct illumination, 1st gear selected clutch to floor. Reached across to get car pass and the autohold failed. My car rolled fwd a few yards into stationary vehicle and caused damage to both cars. No visual or audible warnings.
Fault 3 occurred on the same day after work. Travelling downhill reducing speed from 35mph the brakes were not as responsive as they shoukd have been given the pressure i was applying. Ended up completely depressing the footbrake car continued to slow down but not stop. No skidding but bumped the car in front slightly, no damage to his car.
My car has been in for tests, they have found a fault logged on the system which "would prevent autohold from operating" the cars computer registered this fault in december which coincides with fault 1 but they wont accept liability for fault 2??
Any advice on this matter would be very much appreciated. I bought the car brand new in Nov 14, its still under warranty.
Thanks in advance

Learn to judge closing distances better.
Did you take the car in after December?
If not then Number 2 is on you.0 -
I can judge distances pretty fine, hard to stop without brakes though. The car doesn't come with deployble rear parachute.
1st fault was handbrake issue
2nd fault was an autohold issue0 -
Second one sounds like your footed lifted off the clutch slightly in leaning across and the car assumed you was setting off again.
Third sounds like brake fade.0 -
The clutch was to the floor, its a routine i go through every day. There was no audible or visual alarm before or after collision either. The technicians report suggests an intermittent fault with the autohold, it was working when i took it back to the retailer0

What would cause brake fade? I spoke with a guy at work today who had a very similar situation in a 2009 Tiguan. Apparently atmospheric conditions were causing a film to be deposited on the wheel and resulted in incorrect data being sent to the car/brake computer?0 -
Regarding fault 2 and the auto-hold, have you checked how long should the auto-hold hold the car for?
My car has it, after stopping and taking your foot off the brake it holds the car for up to 3 seconds to give you time to pull away if your on a slope. It is not designed to hold to the car stationary for any length of time. It sounds like it held for a couple of seconds and then released as they are designed to do
Sounds to me like your not using it correctly. To hold the car stationary for any length of time you need to keep the foot brake pressed or the parking brake should be activated0 -

No, its a different feature, youre referring to hill hold. Autohold is designed to hold the car until the driver drives away. I resd my car manual, im using it properly0 -

He says the brake peddle was to the floor and the car still didn't stop.
Did he? Really? I've read the OP and he said the clutch peddle was to the floor. The brake peddle was fully depressed (which isn't "to the floor").
If you're going to criticise someone, at least get your facts right.0 -

FYI, during fault 3, the brake was fully to the floor, i was stood up on it.
Distance was perfectly judged during fault 2, the car was stationary with autohold illumination correct.
Do you have any valid advice or yiu just on here to pick faults and wind people up?0
