Sky Q - what will it give me (and cost)?

All very confusing....

Currently got a box in living room which we always run out of space to. This is wired then to the bedroom.

We've also got another box (multiroom) in spare bedroom wired to another bedroom.

Problems at the moment are:-

1. We're always running out of disk space.
2. You can only watch/record two things at a time.
3. Something recorded on box 1 can't be watched on TV connected to box 2.
3. Wiring all the extra TVs!

Am I right in saying that Sky Q will solve all my problems? :-)

OK how much is it going to cost me?
Full package, HD, and this multiroom thing?

Only concern is it already costs an arm and a leg!!!!

Did I read it right? £149 installation not an issue (but £99 for each additional box) but, if you've got all the channels £89.50 a month? (Not sure what I pay now though for all the channels plus multi-room)

Wow. I guess Sky have seen this as an opportunity to whack the prices right up.

Interestingly, wonder if you can feed another room via the additional box. E.g At the moment, I've got one regular sky box upstairs and this feeds (via aerial cable) to one other bedroom and down into conservatory...

As I understand it, the "old" Sky system is not interchangeable with SkyQ - You need a different type of LNB fitted to the dish which is not compatible -so unless you have two sat dishes (and subs!!) old boxes u/s.
However, if you do go for SkyQ everything appears to be done via wireless -so no need for complicated cabling -just deep pockets:)

As long as wireless works all through the house!

I'm hoping you'll still be able to feed off the sub-boxes like you can now though. I've currently got main box wired to main bedroom also. Then 2nd box is in spare bedroom, feed down into conservatory plus kids bedroom. So we've got it in living PLUS 4 other locations. Dont want to pay £99 and have to have a box in each location....

Incidentally, got full package plus multi-room. Not sure how much it is costing me now. Not sure its THAT much extra to be honest.

Then Q wouldn't be for you, as your needs are too big. Q is only limited to the main Silver box, 2 mini's and 2 tablets at a time, though up to 4 can be ordered. Plus recording is limited to the main box only, so everyone has to share the same hard drive. And none of the kit is yours. Its rented.

If your Sky+ box is the older type with a 500Gb hard drive, you can solve the space issue by putting a bigger hard drive in it. They take up to 2Tb, the same capacity as SkyQ and they are standard PC hard drives, like this:
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Seagate-ST2000VM003-Pipeline-3-5-Inch-Drive/dp/B008B0RQ1C

This won't solve the other problems, number 2 is a hardware limitation of Sky+ for a start.

So you get two minis if you order the Silver package? But you can order up to 4?

To be honest at the moment, the 2nd box is hardly used for recording. And main box is the old smaller HD version so 2Tb would be ideal for us. Not bothered if its rented to be honest. At least then theres no arguments if it packs up!

No TV service if you cancel either.

The current boxes (which you own) continue to provide the Free-To-Air channels if you cancel Sky. Sky Q will provide nothing and you'll have to give the boxes back..

The monthly cost of the Silver Bundle from June will be £56 per month compared to, in my case, £54.75 for Sky HD Variety Pack plus Multiscreen. Installation provided you have Sports and Movies is £149. However, if you have 10 years of continuous subscriptions, Sky will discount the £149 by £99. Sky broadband subscribers can use a Sky Mesh that connects all the boxes in a way that I suspect is similar to SONOS speakers. For non Sky Broadband subscribers the connect is via the existing wifi. Having a dual band router helps as the 5GHz channel can be used.

The downside, as others have said, is the loss of Freesat connectivity unless Sky agrees to fit a hybrid LNB.

Right. To be honest though, Im unlikely to ever cancel Sky.

I guess you could keep your old boxes just in case. ALthough I understand the new dish wont work on old boxes? So you'd have to get a new dish in this case?

To be honest, I dont mind - like I said if it breaks then sky cant try to get me to pay to have if fixed like they do now.
