Lies we tell our children?

The 'Santa's watching for bad behaviour through the alarm PIR's' white lie has probably been the most effective one we've used. This worked wonders for years - we didn't really have to do any parenting at all, to be honest! A simple point in the direction of a PIR and the children would become absolute angels again.
The peace and quiet ended when the oldest realised Santa didn't exist, although she was keen to know who was watching her if it wasn't Santa!0 -
Fast forward a few years and we took our elderly cat to be put down, and I tried to soften it a bit by saying that once he'd died, he'd go up to the sky to be a star. My son, a bit older by this time, informed me that stars are made out of gas, not cats, and I shouldn't be so stupid
I don't post here often but I found this thread through the MSE newsletter and wanted to thank you for the best laugh I've had all day. Be sure your lies will find you out! (Although imagine how much more fun the universe would be if stars really were made out of cats).Happier_Me wrote: »The peace and quiet ended when the oldest realised Santa didn't exist, although she was keen to know who was watching her if it wasn't Santa!0 -
