Why is it that the mere suggestion that those claiming disability benefits are often quite comfortably off makes it 'benefit bashing'?0 -

so is it 'worker bashing' when so many want extra taxes levied on workers in order to protect their own incomes?0 -
my wife has to come come in her lunch hour to help me therefore my motability car is being used for my benefit if she takes it to work,(i certainly would not benefit if she couln't get home and we had to pay a carer to come in) she goes to sainsburys to buy shopping that i eat therefore it is being used for my benefit, the rules are a very grey area that people who don't recieve a motability car like to interpret to suit their own anti-disability and often motivated by jealousy adgenda, if i worked i could still get a motability vehicle and commute to work as it would be for my benefit, in short nobody cares a stuff about what you do other than the regular benefit bashers and jealous neighbours, you can not use it for buisness purposes I.E delivering pizzas or parcels as it is not insured for business use, (that is not the same as commuting) it's strange how people think it can only be used if the disabled person is in the car yet i can nominate two named drivers on my insurance who can live up to 5 miles from my home under the scheme. There is no definition given within the scheme rules of "for the benefit of" so its open to interpretation, the same rules apply if you recieve free car tax as a disabled person as your vehicle becomes registerd on the log book as "disabled taxation class", jealousy and ignorance are terrible traits that some folk choose to live with unfortunatly0

jealousy and ignorance are terrible traits
VED regulations are not 'grey'. Direct benefit is direct benefit. Shopping is not direct. Taking it to work is not direct, just because she has to come home.
The only grey area is Motability's lax interpretation of legislationThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Oh yes, I'm so jealous of mobility cars, paying all your DLA HRM for 3 years and at the end having to hand it all back.
Such a shame we bought our own car and get to keep it even with the DWP making me go through an appeal for PIP.
Don't fancy getting done for misusing disability benefits so we pay the £300 a year road tax.0 -
most of above is incorrect. I drive a motability car to work but its registered to my wife. I cleared it with motability and the insurers to use it for commuting. just get it in writing and you're covered. some comments above are pretty shocking!:beer:0

Thanks. Legislation says:- "The vehicle must be registered in the disabled person’s name or their nominated driver’s name. It must only be used for the disabled person’s personal needs. It can’t be used by the nominated driver for their own personal use.".
Not clear but I say 'personal use' is different to my using it for my wife's benefit - ie transporting her, shopping trips and my commuting to bring an income home to the family. What is personal use exactly? Taking the vehicle myself to go on holiday?:beer:0 -
Bringing in an income is not personal needs, it is your personal use.
This has all been covered before.
