Ok can you provide a link where it says only students and kids are 100% exempt from council tax?

I am not saying the person owns 2 properties. I said 50% ownership in each of the 2 properties. 1 property still on mortgage.

    Please advise and acknowledge,

    thank you

When did this new law came in exactly few years ago where unemployed people have to pay council tax at a reduced rate?

So you confirming that a person claiming income support and carers allowance has to pay council tax but at a reduced rate?

Or basically what you saying is anyone who is employed or unemployed has to pay some council tax at least?

So who or what are the eligibility to be 100% exempt from council tax?

Council Tax Benefit was scrapped a few years ago and replaced with local schemes. Each Council runs its own individual scheme with its own rules. In most cases working age claimants will only get a certain percentage of their council tax covered by the new localised scheme.
These are my own views and you should seek advice from your local Benefits Department or CAB.

    1) Each Council runs their own scheme. Each Council has their own rules. Only their Council website will show what help they are likely to get.

    2) They own or part own 2 properties. How can they get Income Support with ownership or part ownership of 2 properties? How did they get 2 50% mortgages on 2 council owned properties? Confused?

Okay well how about you provide a link saying those on income support or another benefit are exempt.

You want the information, you go look for it. We have told you what we think, if you think different, you look for that information.

Nothing you are saying makes sense. You're friend is either pulling your leg or youve got your facts very mixed up, OR someone is fraudulently claiming.

It is with Birmingham city council.

Ok students and kids are exempt from council tax, what about elderly people in their 60s?

Lol fraudulently claiming what? I am here to seek clarification and advise legitimately. A frauding person wouldn't care less and still continue regardless of what the law says or not. I am here to find out what the law says. Its better than being ignorant. Ignorance is not a valid excuse anyway.

Elderly people in their 60s? I think a lot of 60 year olds would object to being called elderly...

But yes, many qualify for full support with council tax but they will all be expected to pay 'something'

Someone with half of TWO houses should not be claiming income support and should be paying council tax on both. It seems they are not. That sounds fraudulent, and you haven't answered any questions about the double house situation.

So what you saying which doesn't make sense is a benefit claimant cannot be a owner or shareowner in a property?

And instead the benefit claimant must sell his/her share of the house or the whole house and with the money from the sale live on that without a roof over their heads instead of benefit claiming?

You saying all benefit claimants only rent property in this country?

Pay for what something if they are eligible full council tax support?

The home they live in is disregarded.

The capital value of any other property minus 10% is treated as capital.

If they own two properties then only one is classed as their main home.

    They can own a house.

    They cannot own 2 houses.

You have again, yet to answer the question about how they 'part own' 50% of two council properties. Are they joint owners? How do they own 50%?

I have no more interest in answering your questions until you start answering those asked by posters above.
