BT Premium Mail price increase
Comments

After an eternity on hold (45 minutes on Monday, 20 minutes yesterday and 50+ minutes today), I finally got to talk to a human being at BT.
He was very helpful, and within 5 minutes had set my Premium Mail to be billed at zero cost in future, and arranged a refund of all the fees that I have paid for Premium Mail going back to when I got Infinity (which was in February 2014).

I got the same email and I only kept the email when they first brought in a charge because this was my first email address and it held years of emails.
I swapped over everything to Gmail last week, all my emails have gone across, losing them was my biggest worry and if anything changing everything over in the last few days has been very therapeutic and I have removed myself from a few mailing lists as well.
I managed to get through to BT today and straight away they offered to let me keep paying £1.60 per month for another twelve months and review again then, the main theme seemed to be to get me to sign up with them for broadband.
Despite their best efforts I refused as I had already moved everything to Gmail.
Sad to lose the email but why pay?
Well worth asking to keep it if you prefer to keep your email.

Can you tell me what phone number you used to contact them? I may pay the £1.60 if they continue it and cancel it after about 6 months once I'm sure everything has moved over, I feel guilty too as my daughter has lots of job applications in and has used her bt email.0 -
Sorry OP I feel like I'm taking over your thread
I have managed to wangle 12 months at £1.60 for premium mail, it is a 12 month contract so I can't cancel but at less than £20 for the year and the time to move over contact details to other email addresses for four people I think it is worth it. After being passed from one number to the next coupled with long waits I finally got the number to their Retentions Dept who gave me the offer, if it helps anyone else here it is: 0800 032 2114. Good luck.0 -
Sorry for the late reply, it was the number on the email 0800 032 2114
MartinBeen there, done that, now I want to do it cheaper!!0 -
A thoroughly pathetic, unprofessional, incompetent outfit that really shouldn't be touched with a bargepole.
I know, I know - get off the fence.0 -
They didn't offer me another year at £1.60
They just said my email address and account will be cancelled in 30 days
I've had this BT talk21 address for 16 years!0 -
I never got an email to tell me its going up, and the new bill shows it has. Not happy! Cancelled my DD and will be writing to them shortly0

I got the email, I called them and agreed another 12 months at £1.60, very annoying.
Edit: I called them and the person I spoke was going to get in touch with the relevant department and get it sorted, a couple of hours later I got an email telling me I was getting it free for a year and then it would go up to £5 pm. I'm happy now and it gives me time to change my email address on all the accounts I have registered it with over the past 15 years.0
